It is true. There is a small article in the Sports Section of this morning's Daily Oklahoman.

JD they showed the race on ESPN last night and a somewhat short Memorial. He was making a pass when his motor blew or supercharger the car proceeded on toward the end of the strip through the safety mesh.It looked like damage was done when the motor or supercharger blew.

I think most of these tracks were built when the speeds were around 220mph. Now they are 330mph. The shut down area of this track was short and he blew threw the sand and made heavy, head on contact with the barrier behind the sand. I think the finish line should either be shorted to 1000ft or the shut down area made much longer at some of the older tracks.

I'm not a drag racing fan. At all. This is why. The technology to produce speed has surpassed the technology to provide a safe environment to be able to handle these speeds.Did anybody not learn anything from the John Force accident ???? Hello ?? NHRA has such a ****on to try & capture some attention away from NASCAR, They don't give a C H I T about their competitors as far as facilities are concerned.

That old ancient track,Englishtown, NJ. Correct ??? was built to handle street racing & slingshot dragsters. Back in Kalitta's Dad's days.180-200 mph max. If any body wants to call that a "shut down" area, It looked like something for a cat to do its business in. What an atrocity.

.Sand Trap ??? Nonexistant is what I say. Needs to be similar shut-down apparatus like what is on an aircraft carriers & NHRA should equip all the tracks .NOW

Thank God there weren't any spectators at the end or safety personnel parked down there.Damn I hate to say this but it couldve been a LOT worse.

Street drag racing is very very popular in OKC on Sat nights still even these days. Have had friends die in doing this.

I won't get into all my reasons for disliking the sport but I HATED seeing this happen .His dad has been through so much & another family is without its leader because of inadequate safety equipment/facilities.

It's always sad to loose any racer not matter what they drive.

It is also sad that safety doesn't keep up with the ever changing designs and greater speeds. I think I did see something where John Force has been really active in creating new safety devices for those guys, so at least someone out there is trying. I did see some of those guys run a few years ago, and yes with the greater speed, they do need a longer track or something for a shut down area. Not really sure if it would of helped in this situation.

As for street racing, it is a stupid, crazy, deadly sport, that I myself did when I was a stupid teenager, and yes I'm lucky to be here today.
