Mason Moore moves up in standings after 3rd place run in Chico

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – June 15, 2008…Princeton’s Mason Moore continued his consistent season this past Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway by driving the Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services 410 sprinter to a third place finish in the 25 lap main event. The 17 year-old continues to be one of just two drivers who have finished among the top 10 in each Feather Falls Casino point race this season at the Chico track.

The ninth 410 point race at the Silver Dollar Speedway found 21 winged sprint cars on hand during Chico Volkswagen Night at the races. Moore started off the warm night on a good note as he timed in third quickest aboard the NOS Energy Drink, Platinum Powder Coating No. 22.

Moore then lined-up in the third row during the night’s final heat race and jumped into second early on, before setting his sights on leader Zack West. The Princeton driver hounded the leader over the final few laps and took advantage of West getting slowed up while dealing with a lapped car on the final lap. As West got a bit out of shape in turn two it was all “Primetime” needed and he shot into the lead and went on to take the checkered flag in first place.

With fast qualifier Andy Forsberg pulling the number four pill it put Moore on the outside of the front row for the evening’s 25 lap main event. The initial start of the feature saw the youngster launch off the fourth corner and put the Withrow’s Motorsports No. 22 into the lead, but a yellow before a lap could be completed forced a complete restart.

When the green lights came back on again pole sitter Mark Hall got the jump and before Moore could try to cut back underneath him, second row starter Andy Forsberg sliced underneath to take second. The Silver Dollar Speedway saw one of the best surfaces all season and Moore battled within the top five for the remainder of the race before crossing the stripe in fourth at the checkered flag.

A disqualification following the race however, moved the 17 year-old up to third in the rundown to cap off a strong night of racing at the quarter-mile bullring. Moore then attempted to compete at the Calistoga Speedway on Saturday with the Civil War 360 Series, but a blown engine in qualifying ended the night early.

The Moore Racing team had planned on running with the Civil War Series at the American Valley Speedway next Saturday, but getting a 360 engine will determine if the No. 22 sprint car will be in action at the long 3/8 mile oval. The Silver Dollar Speedway will not be running 410’s next Friday, but will return with the winged warriors on Friday night June 27. Moore will go into the event sitting third in the Silver Dollar Speedway point standings and will look to gain more ground on the leaders.
