Flip ends return for Zack West at Silver Dollar Speedway
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – June 13, 2008…Back in action for the first time since April 11 Chico’s Zack West was poised to have a good night until contact sent him upside down in the 25 lap A-main at the Silver Dollar Speedway. West had shown speed all night and was running solidly in the top 10 when the accident occurred in turns one and two.
A warm June Friday night with various fires in the surrounding Chico area saw 21 winged sprint cars show up for the 11th point race of the Feather Falls Casino point season. West began the night on a good note by timing the Ing Excavation, Community Construction sprinter ninth fastest overall.
The 18 year then lined-up fourth in his heat race, but a false start by the outside front row starter moved him up a row. West then jumped into the lead and held the top spot all the way to the final lap when he got out of shape while dealing with a lap car. It allowed Mason Moore to slip by and relegate West to second where he went on to finish, which still transferred him into the main event.
Lining up seventh in the 25 lap feature the Chico driver was running right around that spot when contact after a handful of laps sent him off the track and upside down. It put a tough end to the return for West and the team, but on a positive note the car was fast and gives some hope for the coming weeks. The Cinecon Group, Pace Supply No. 14 will be back in action at Silver Dollar Speeway in two Friday's on June 27.
