Topic: Looks like no choice but to miss rces this weekend

Sounds like I-80 will be closing tomorrow for a minimum of 3 days at the Cedar River. That was my last option of getting to Knoxville. Hwy 92 closed at Col Junction, Hwy 70 closed, Hwy 22 likely closing in next day or 2, Hwy 6 closed or closing, F-70 closed. This is crazy.... Mississippi crest just revised to 1 ft higher and 1 day later in Davenport and it just gets worse
each lock further down the river.

I'm sorry, but it seems to me that those dealing with the flood and its attendant damage have other things to worry about than an auto race.
Why don't you take some of that energy you would have invested in going to a race, and go do some volunteer work with the Red Cross, or help a family/neighborhood/town at risk from the floods....it seems to me that attending a race is a rather low priority right now....

Are you serious? We spend all day/night sand bagging and praying and watching the water rise with no end in sight. Why is it silly to just want to go see a race on the weekend and enjoy a little bit of life for a while? We are just about out of city water in Cedar Rapids as the Water Plant has been shut down with no power, so I can't even take a shower after I sweat my butt off trying to salvage something. Electricity is disappearing from the rest of the city grid by grid. What we need right now is a trip to Knoxville to see a good race. I'm in the same boat. I have absolutely no route to Knoxville, might not have electricity to be able to listen to hoseheads, and I'm a little upset about it. There is such a thing as taking care of your sanity.

Yeah, I'm in the same "boat" so to speak with the others over here in Eastern Iowa and the bad part is I depend on that little bit of income I get from the track each week in the summer. There may be bigger things to worry about, sure, but racing season is short and my sanity is severely compromised when races are going on at Knoxville and I'm sitting at home. It's not wrong of any of us to be upset...it's called being real race fans.

Like I said. priorities....
Well, maybe the races will get cancelled due to rain......

I hope the races don't rain out. I hope that if I have electricity I can come home, log in, and listen in. I hope that if I don't have electricity, when it comes back on I can log in and read the results and stories. I hope that the people who go provide a very vivid description of the races so I can almost feel like I was there. I hope everyone that is in an area that can get to the races both at Huset's and Knoxville have a great time and see great shows. I hope everyone traveling to and from the races, at the races, driving a car, crewing a car, participating as track safety, officials, and every other position are safe and have a great night!

How do you know if Paint has helped flood victims or not? A little harsh criticism if you aren't on the line filling sandbags yourself, sprinter25.

Mermaid i to am in se iowa burlington in fact. I hope you all the luck. I also beleive sprinter has no clue what you are going thru along with many others in this great state of IOWA. Sometimes tradegdy brings out the best in people to work together and fight for what they have and need to survive. I also hope you can at least listen to the races. People in iowa are tough and will survive thru it all. GOOD LUCK TO ALL

I guess you should know better than to talk about sprint car racing on a sprint car forum Paintboss. Cant say anything on here without being sorry about it. Hope it works out for you and I don't mind if you don't volunteer this weekend.

a500tt, if you're in Burlington, you'll get it worse than us, won't you? All of this will eventually flow into the Mississippi. Iowa City is getting hurt far worse than us because the Cedar flows into the Iowa.
Maybe we can put a 410 motor on a boat and tool around the area. Have some races. That would be fun and entertaining! I bet the people that are flooded out would get a kick out of it! Put a wing on the boat! Now I'm just dreaming!

Mermaid we will get high water but we like you will rebuild. And by the way we have a awesome 305 program weekly and if the rain stays away we will race. i think you should be able to make it down 218 to 34 east if you want to see races saturday night. Again good luck

Man Sprinter 25. Sometimes i really wonder about you. I have no clue where you are and quite frankly i could careless as long as your not by me. It's the individuals choice to do whatever they feel they have to do or want to do to get through the amazing or bewildering ordeal that these people are facing out there. I go to Knoxville just about every year and have become very good friends with some of the locals and actually stay at a individuals house there. I really hope everything is ok with them and the posters on this board, but i could careless what a individual wants to do. Petty criticism IMO by you.

If you can manage to escape to the north Cedar Lake has two nights of Sprint Car and Late Model racing at their Masters starting tomorrow. Late Models are WDRL and Sprints are IRA. It's worth the trip.

As the rains keep coming... My boat is tied up at the back door. With the Iowa River to my north and the Mississippi River to my east... and both on the rise... I may need the boat to make it to the races. I think there's a slightly crumpled front wing out in the shop that I could bolt on the bow.
