Jimmy Pettit wins 3rd wingless main event of Silver Dollar Speedway season

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – June 9, 2008…Chico’s Jimmy Pettit remained poised throughout a caution plagued main event this past Friday night and drove the Kevin Sharrah Designs, Pep Boys No. 24p to his third wingless main event win of the season at the Silver Dollar Speedway.

It was a perfect night for Pettit as he got a good pill draw to start the event putting him on the front row of his heat race. The driver of the 24p wingless spec sprint jumped into the lead at the waving of the green flag and never looked back to pick up the win in the eight lap race.

A very slick and tough track then greeted competitors for the 20 lap main event on Ashley Furniture Night at the quarter-mile bullring. Lining up third in the feature Pettit hugged the bottom groove through the first set of corners and with both front row starters pushing up the track, it allowed him to drive out into the lead.

Pettit did a solid job as he hit his marks lap after lap, which was extremely important because for much of the way he had youngster Keith Bloom and Cort Dozier breathing down his neck. A number of yellows and even a red delayed much of the race, but Pettit remained calm, cool and collected and continued to hug the bottom to perfection.

The final caution of the main event occurred with just a few laps remaining and on the restart the Chico racer pulled away and drove off for his third career wingless sprint car main event victory. “It feels great to get another win here and I’m just so happy I don’t know what to say. We’ve had a great year and just hope to continue the success for the rest of the season,” Pettit said.

With the victory it moved him up to fifth in the Feather Falls Casino point standings, despite missing two races. Pettit is now expected to take this Friday off before getting ready for the Chico/Placerville double header weekend on June 20 and 21.
