Andy Gregg charges to fourth at Placerville Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA – June 9, 2008…Competing on Golden 1 Credit Union Night at the Placerville Speedway this past Saturday, Team Guts Racing driver Andy Gregg continued his consistency over the last couple weeks by bringing home a fourth place finish in the main event.

Going into the seventh 360 point race at the Placerville Speedway Gregg had hoped to change things around after some recent tough luck during weekly competition at his home track. He went into the weekend fresh off a pair of top 10’s with the Golden State Challenge 410 Series the previous week and looked to carry the momentum into the event on Saturday.

A 31 car field signed in at the back gate for Golden 1 Credit Union Night and Gregg began the event by qualifying the Myers & Sons Drywall, Straight Line Roofing Maxim eleventh fastest overall. The qualifying time put him into the second row for his heat race and the initial green flag would see a false start. Unfortunately as he slowed down another car climbed his right rear tire and forced him to go to the work area.

After getting the flat tire changed Gregg returned to the track, but was involved in another incident after going back green. He once again returned to the work area and got back out for the restart before driving back up to fifth, which put the Dale Miller Plumbing, Nor Cal Vinyl Fencing No. 16x into the B-main. The Placerville driver lined-up fifth in the 12 lap semi and brought home a runner-up finish to transfer into the main event.

Once the 25 lap feature went green Gregg fell back early on from his eighth place starting spot, but right around the midway point he began to move forward and got up on the wheel racing on the dry slick surface. At the checkered flag the Circle Racing Wheels, Comstock Mortgage sprinter sat in the fourth position. “It was a nice run and we’ll take it after how some of the point stuff has gone recently,” Gregg said.

This weekend will find Gregg and the Guts Racing team in competition with the California Civil War Series on Saturday at the historic Calistoga Speedway half-mile. He will go into the event sitting eighth in the Civil War standings, just 31 points behind co-leaders Sean Becker and David Robinson Jr.

Last August saw Gregg score a career best second place finish at the high-speed track and he looks forward to getting back to the half-mile for the first time since that night. “We’re all ready to get back to Calistoga and are hoping for a good solid run after the fourth in P’ville and the recent top 10’s with Golden State,” Gregg said. “We’d like to keep the momentum up this weekend as well as next week in Quincy to move forward in the Civil War points.”
