Myers Brothers Racing grinds it out through tough night

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – June 6, 2008…Competing on a very challenging racing surface Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway the Myers Brothers Racing team looked to be on way to a very good night until a couple of issues after midway point of the feature dashed the hopes of that.

Returning to the Silver Dollar Speedway after being off last weekend found a field of 23 wingless sprint cars on hand for the 10th overall point race of the Feather Falls Casino season. The pill draw went well for both Cody and Mason as they both drew front row starting spots for their heats, but each of them fought the cars during the eight lap contests.

The heat races for the wingless division extra are important because the finishes determine the starting line-up for the main event following a pill draw. Cody was able to bring home a fourth place finish in the opening heat race while Mason scored third in the final wingless heat.

The heat results stuck the youngsters back around mid-pack for the main event with Mason lining up in the fifth row and Cody right behind him in row six. A strong steady wind had dried the track surface out considerably as the night went on and by the time the wingless main event rolled around, the bottom groove was the place to be.

Early on in the 20 lap feature Mason and Cody were both on the move despite the tough track conditions. Mason carved his way forward with a few precision based passes and had just gotten up to the top five by the midway point when the slick track bit him as he spun in turns one and two. He restarted and did his best to get back up to 11th by the finish.

Cody had made the decision to try the outer portions of the speedway since most were running the bottom and he was able to do a great job at it, as he made the closing laps somewhat exciting in the caution plagued race. Cody was on the hammer trying the high side and looked to be on way to a good finish until pulling off the speedway with issues just three laps from the finish.

It was a tough way to end the night, but that’s how it goes sometimes and we’ll look for better things next Friday evening during the 11th Silver Dollar Speedway point race. Please come on by the pits after the races to say hi. More info and pictures on the Myers Brothers Racing team can be found by logging onto
