Mason Moore hangs in for eighth place finish in Chico

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – June 6, 2008…Consistently finishing races is a key for any young driver and Princeton’s Mason Moore has done exactly that this season at the Silver Dollar Speedway by finishing among the top 10 during every 410 point race so far in ‘08.

After a couple weeks off for the 410’s in Chico Moore returned this past Friday night and continued the consistency as he drove to an eighth place finish in the main event, which marked his eighth top 10 in eight starts in the Feather Falls Casino point season.

The 17 year-old went into the night sitting tied with Jonathan Allard for third in the Silver Dollar Speedway standings and hoped to make up ground on the leaders. Moore was also sitting behind the wheel of a new car that the team had shook down the prior week in Marysville and are still trying to get a handle on as it seems to be a bit twitchier than the old car.

A total of twenty-eight 410 sprint cars were on hand for the 10th overall point race at Silver Dollar Speedway and Moore started out solid by timing the Rolling Hills Casino, NOS Energy Drink No. 22 ninth fastest. A fifth place finish in his heat race however, put him into the B-main where he would then go on and finish second to transfer into the feature.

By main event time the track had become very tricky as turns one and two were extremely slick and on the bottom, yet the other end of the speedway had remained a bit moist. It made for challenging conditions and Moore ran a smooth and solid 25 laps to finish in the eighth position after starting 10th aboard the Moore Insurance Services, SkipperPartys.net Eagle.

This coming weekend will find the Moore Racing team in competition during a double header weekend with another point race at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night. The youngster will go into next Friday sitting fourth in Feather Falls Casino points and should have the opportunity to move up in the standings with Allard not expected to be in action.

Then on Saturday Moore will make the drive to the beautiful Calistoga Speedway half-mile for the fifth round of racing with the California Civil War 360 Series. The coming weekend’s event at the Calistoga Speedway will be the annual Calistoga Cup and will also mark the first event at the intimidating track this season.

Moore will look to make up ground in the Civil War standings on Saturday in what will be his third career start at the half-mile dirt track located in the Napa Valley wine country. More info on the Calistoga Cup can be found at
