Geving maintains top ten finish and series point lead despite damage in All Pro Points race at Petaluma

By Bill Sullivan

PENNGROVE, CA (5-31-08) – If hard luck came in the form in monetary donations, sixteen year old Alissa Geving of Penngrove, CA would be on her way to becoming a wealthy young lady over the past few weeks. Saturday night, the Petaluma Speedway All Pro Points leader was dealt an ugly hand once again but she kept her cards on the table and played the game until the end to maintain her current series point lead.

In qualifying, Geving’sPit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises #3X Sprint car was the seventh car in the 18 car field to take to the track. The night started off well for the Chicko Motorsports team as she muscled the Gary Geving powered Maxim the second fastest time of the night, posting a 12:638 second lap in the 3/8 mile speedway.

Geving’s qualifying time positioned her on the outside of the third row of the evening’s second heat race of the evening. In the eight lap preliminary event, Geving overtook Clint Simpson and Ricky Wright to claim the third position behind Brandon Davis and Robbie Whitchurch.

In the 25-lap feature event, Geving started in an ideal position to drive her way to a possible second season victory, sitting on the inside of the second row. As the front row powered ahead, Geving began a battle with fourth place starter and fellow sophomore racer Richard Bailey at the waving of the green flag.

Entering the third turn of the opening lap, Bailey attempted to avoid another car and spun in front of Geving. With too little time and distance to react, Geving made a valiant attempt to avoid Bailey but was unable to do so as she became involved in the incident and was struck by several cars in the attempt. The collisions caused damage to the #3x, including that of the rear axle which greatly decreased Geving’s performance for the restart.

Restarting from the rear of the 17 car field, Geving kept herself in the hunt for the 2008 All Pro Series point lead by continuing to compete in the event, despite the fact a victory or even a top five finish was likely out of the question with the damage to her ride.Remaining calm and utilizing patience is once of Geving’s top qualities as a young sprint car driver.Utilizing those skills and being cautious with her ill handling car, Geving managed her way to the 10th finishing position at the waving of the checkered flag.

With the top ten finish, Geving will maintain her current All Pro Points lead at Petaluma Speedway. While traveling to different tracks throughout California is a strong desire of Geving’s she remains focused on earning her first championship title of her young career at her hometrack of Petaluma Speedway.Finishing in the top ten despite the damage topped a week of success for Alissa Geving.

Earlier in the week she was honored academically at UrsulineHigh School in Sonoma where she is currently a junior. Geving was recognized with a scholar leadership award, the University of Rochester Xerox award for innovation and information technology. Was presented with honors in physics and was recognized for her auto racing accomplishments including the Paul Tyler Rising Star Award she received in March and for her appearance in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd.”

This Saturday, June 7, Alissa Geving and the Chicko Motorsports team look forward to competing with California’s best drivers as the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car series will be in competition at Petaluma Speedway. This event also awards championship points towards the All Pro point series. During the last visit, Geving charged her way to sixth in the event, driving a 360 cubic inch powered car against a field of 410 powered machines and earning top point honors for the weekly series.
