I thought it was odd that they only showed the A feature. If you weren't Schatz, Saldana, Keel, Kinser, or Wolfe... you got next to nothing for airtime and sponsors exposure!

Here's a thought. Why don't the Speed people hire the outfit that mans the cameras at Knoxville to tape it since they do a great job all night of keeping with the action and not just the leaders (watch the video on the big screen when there's no storm damage or after the races at Dingus). Then they hire people like Justin and Tony or Doty and Gibson (sounds strangely familiar) who actually know who the drivers are and what the heck is going on to do the commentary. I think they fail to realize that sprint car racing and dirt tracks in general are not only very different from Nascar, but much better and deserves much better coverage. They just never seem to understand that people don't wait to show up until the feature. We like the whole night of racing and expect to see it when it's "covered" on TV.

no shit - good point. if they goin to telecast a race. show the whole damn thing like they did at Lowe's. they showed time trials and everything. but whenever they telecast from somewhere that actually has local talent - they completely cut out c mains - b mains - and other stuff in favor of showing us bullshit stuff bout tony stewart and kasey kahne's racecars. i mean I wathc this shit to see the racing - not hear the best funded drivers brag about their sponsorships and shit. and yeah without the local competition - the race isn't as interesting - ie lowes. that was mostly just outlaws - plus about 4 or so. shades of what dodge city will probably be. so when they are in ohio or pa they need to show all the racing - because damn it thats what folks want to see. some of the best racing is between the lesser funded and sometimes lesser talented guys in the c main. i just think they need to show all the races. if they are going to cut out anything - cut out time trials. start airing during time trials and do all your king kinser and schatz and saldana bullshit then. and then show us every f-n race after that. every heat, dash, and semi feature and the a. hell i think personally they should tape delay the bitch and show all the support classes too. give folks the full race experience. its not like they televise every race - so it aint much a gip to paid fans. i think the paid fans in attendance would be ok with this too. or i would hope so.
its worked well in stick and ball sports. hell ou football and pro football and stuff have no problems fillin the stands and most of that stuff is on tv. in fact, its better on tv. now dirt track racing aint usually like that - but you get the point...........

They got a bad rap at the time, but the shows that The Outdoor Channel produced a couple of years ago were pretty good. At least they showed all the night's races with minimum BS.

this was a taped race, correct? they can put any film crew out there that they want, to film everything they want, and what you see on screen will still come down to how it all was edited. i did not see the show. i am guessing it was an hour long. it wasn't just a half hour was it? the lowes show was 3 hours. some of the point of having these shows is to get the attention and interest of folks who may be new to sprint cars. lets face it, the big names and the more marketable names are going to get the attention. the stewart and kahne names are going to attract an interest. as far as just showing the main as was mentioned, diehard fans will sit through every lap of every race, boreing or not. that may not be true for everyone out there.
you guys are acting like a bunch of self centered, sniveling cry babies. maybe they should just not air anything. then at least we wouldn't have to hear you bitch.

Right guy's, those Nascar shows are so successful because they don't just focus on Jr., Gordon, Stewart, & Busch. I am not watching the napcar race today but I bet Micheal McDowell has been the focus of the tv coverage just as much as Jr or Busch!!!!
I would love to buy a ticket and go see the WHOLE race program but as I live in Iowa and cannot afford to go to Pa. when the WoO is there I am glad to get to see the A main in HD!

team wright-one, I agree with the spirit of your post, but I'll have to admit that I was thinking the same thing about the heats. How long would it take to show a few highlights? Maybe just a little longer than asking Kinser a stupid question..LOL That's one part I would have edited for sure. The look on Kinsers face and the look in his eyes said it all.

as i said i did not see the program so i do not know what stupid question was asked of kinser. i too can understand about wanting to see more than just the main. for so long folks have complained about no tv. now that we have some tv, they want to complain that it's not enough. they seem to think that everything should be suited to just their way of thinking and that everything should be perfect right from the get-go. we are trying to build an audiance here aren't we? if some don't like what they see they can choose to not tune in. if enough folks do that we will be back to where we were, listening to folks bitch cause there is no tv. you are never going to make some folks happy. so screw them and just do the best that can be done to gain attention to our sport.

The one where he was sitting in the car under the red, waiting for the restart. I did find it humorous though. I'm not complaining, it just makes me go Hmmmmmm,,

Way too much camera time on that plain blue (illegal) car. But hey, look at the BIG picture. Sprint cars on TV!

As has been said before, the object of this whole thing is to get new fans to watch WoO on TV and maybe interest them enough to go to a live show. Once there, they'll most likely be hooked for life as most of us are.
Human interest sells, especially when it's about NASCAR these days. The people in charge know what's going to attract people, or at least get their attention. Just the racing won't do it.
If you want every program to be 3 hours like the show from Lowes, then all you have to do is pony up the bucks to have them do it. So many people focus on the fact that WRG is in debt, but yet so many want them to go further in debt so they can have what they want.
Diehards aren't the future of the sport, new fans are. Diehards will go no matter what, but if someone isn't already a fan, you'll never get their dollars.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

I screwed up the setting on my VCR and only got the last two minutes of the Shatz interview, so can't really comment with any authority.
But, I hoped for a two hour show with at least highlights from the heats and preliminary races. If they really showed only the A-main they must have done a lot of fill since it only takes 12-15 minutes of actual racing to run thirty laps.
It'll be interesting to see what they do with Knoxville this weekend (when they show it a week or two later!). Knoxville does a great job with the cameras on a weekly basis. I have had the opportunity to sit in a couple of suites above the Hall of Fame, and there were always excellent replays shown on the closed circuit TV. Very seldom missed much of any accident. (don't recall that they replayed any of the close racing, but that may have been because I wasn't looking for it.)
I agree that it's great to have it on Speed and hopefully the coverage will generate some new fan interest. Might be a better time to show it than 3:00 CDT, though.

Didn't they show highlights of another A Main during the week. (Just a thought, but maybe with just a few cars inverted in the heat races, there was not as much action as there was in the Main Event with Schatz coming from 17th to 3rd in just 25(?) laps on a 1/2 mile track. ANd with Kinser beating Posse, what more do you want? They showed all the clips of his misfortune from last year. Would you rather have highlights of heat races or mainevents during the week, I for one would go for mainevents. Plus the action in the mainevent was pretty damn good, and this coming from non wing CRA fan!
Plus they needed to get in Turn 5 advertising, during the show, which featured the inside of the trailors.
Old time race fans remember when there was barely any racing on TV, even Nascar was a bonus to be on the tube, now we bash a great race on TV which actually had some coverage of 2 mainevents of sprint cars. Give me a break.
And for a non wing fan here, can you tell where the channel is for their races?
PS I liked Jackslash too, bring him back!!! anyone notice the empty seats on the frontstretch on camera, what was that about ?

jd - attendance at the Grove for WoO events has been in steady decline since the split...except for the National Open of course.

I just want to comment on the last line of your post. With the exception of the National Open, the WoO shows at the Grove don't draw like they used to. It is still a very nice crowd, because the Grove does have a ton of seats, but the WoO races are not turn away crowds like they used to be. As rabid as the fans are on here about the locals, that plays out with racing at the Grove live as well. I can pretty much guarantee that the $10,000 to win Speedweek show for locals will have a bigger crowd than last month's Outlaw show.
That race shown on Speed was also the first night of a scheduled two-night WoO show at the Grove. The first night of a Grove WoO show is never overflowing, even back in the old days. I also think people are becoming far more selective of how many $20+ shows they attend with gas at $4 a gallon.
That is the main reason 410 tracks in PA like Port Royal and Lincoln don't run WoO shows anymore. From a racing standpoint, Lincoln is one of the best Sprint Car tracks in the country and they have not run a WoO race since 1996 because the promoters reason that the place is packed every week without the WoO.
