Mason Myers takes 4th at Silver Dollar Fair race

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – May 26, 2008…Competing at the annual Silver Dollar Speedway Fair race Browns Valley’s Mason Myers recorded another top five finish in the wingless main event and brother Cody continued to have tough luck as issues after hot laps forced him to scratch for the night.

The Memorial Day weekend double-header at the Silver Dollar Speedway saw completely different weather from the previous week, which had seen temps reach into the triple digits. Waking up on Saturday saw cloudy skies with off and on rain during the day, but just before cars were ready to hit the speedway, the sun popped out and allowed us to get the night’s festivities run without any worries.

A total of 19 wingless sprint cars showed up for the Saturday portion of the weekend and a very wet and greasy track was seen early on. Just after hot laps a problem with Cody’s car was discovered and it was decided to scratch the car for the night and not risk any more damage. Mason was good to go after hot laps and brought home a fifth place finish in his heat race on the still wet track.

By main event time the speedway still remained "hooked up and haulin" and made passing opportunities hard to come by. Myers lined up on the inside of the sixth row and despite the fast track he was able to get up on the wheel and carve his way through the pack. The youngster steadily made his way forward and put himself into the top five with a handful of laps remaining.

Myers continued to move forward and claimed fourth, before closing in on third running Kyle Hirst and second running Taylor Simas. The trio ran nose to tail over the final few laps and Myers tried to poke his nose into third at one point, but couldn’t make it stick and settled for a fourth place finish. The result marked his fifth top five finish of the season and continued his recent string of strong runs.

The Silver Dollar Speedway will go dark this coming weekend and will be back in action on Friday June 6th with another Feather Falls Casino point race. Mason will go into the night sitting third in the point standings and will look to make up ground on the leaders. With the problem this past Saturday Cody now finds himself sitting in the seventh spot in the standings and will look to change up his luck on June 6.
