(The views and opinions expressed in the Big J Report Presented by Wertz Designs does not need to be taken too seriously)
410s (26 Cars)
Welcome Mat The Dude (5) is back, Brooke Tatnell (11AU), Ryan Anderson (71R), Jack Dover (53), Bronson Maeschen (96)
MIA Billy Alley, Dusty Zomer, Bobby Bell
VIP Decided to throw this up at the top since Wertz was so kindly to sponsor the Report with his presence in the VIP with BT24 and the Little J's in the section.
Time Trials (1 lap each) The Dude (15th out) set quick time for the 2nd time this year (in only 2 tries) with a 10.940 lap on a pretty good track for everyone in time trials. He bested Jake Peters (57x) 10.955 lap. Scott Winters (23w) had the big iron 410 in for this week and was 3rd quick with a 11.012. The rest of the top 16 that hit the invert: Cressman (56), Nygaard (9N), DeWall (16), Henderson (D1), Bakker (11x), Tatnell, Jones (9M), Meyer (1w), Lambertz (12L), Garner (40), Jeffrey (12), Schliemann (4), Dover, Anderson, Dobmeier (13)
Time Trials Grade: A with the Dude setting quick time for the 2nd time this year and with the track getting back to good condition from last week, setting up for what looked like a great night of racing.
Heats (Top 6 Inverted from TT, Top 6 to the A with Top 4 Inverted in the A) Starting Positions in Parenthesis
Heat 1 Finish: Dover (1), Henderson (4), Dude (6), Jones (3), Runge (7), Cressman (5)/ Maeschen (8), McGillivray (9), Garner (2)
Heat 1 Notes: Caution (1 of many) on lap 5 for Garner who lost an engine and was done for the night. Cressman spun by himself on lap 6 and McGillivray and Maeschen collected with the 101 out for the heat. Another caution on lap 8 for debris. Dover checked out from the front row.
Heat 2 Finish: Jeffrey (2), Anderson (1), Bakker (4), Peters (6), Meyer (3), Nygaard (5)/ Ballenger (8), Bickett (9), Vogelaar (7)
Heat 2 Notes: Good start for the Snake from 6th as he hit the invert with it. Lynton checked out with follow the leader behind.
Heat 3 Finish: Lambertz (3), Tatnell (4), Miller (7), Rosenboom (8)/ Dobmeier (1 DNF), Winters (6), Schliemann (2), DeWall (5)
Heat 3 Notes: Schliemann got loose coming outta 2 on the first lap and Tatnell had nowhere to go and ran into him, causing DeWall to flip behind and Winters to lose a front end in the process. Dobmeier had a tire going down running 2nd and lost it with 2 to go so only the top 4 transferred to the A with the rest to the B.
Heat Grades: B; good racing all over just sucked Schliemann had to mess up a lot of people's equipment and causing them to start from the back for the A.
B Feature (Top 4 Tag the A) Starting Order: Maeschen (96), Ballenger (2D), Dobmeier, Vogelaar (33), Winters, McGillivray (101), Schliemann, Bickett (17B), DeWall (DNS), Garner (DNS)
Finish: Dobmeier, Winters, Ballenger & Schliemann transferred/ 33, 96, 17B, 101, 16, 40
B Feature Grade: B; pretty much a hot lap session for Dobmeier & Winters with the latter running down the multi-time winner, even though he almost dumped it into the fence a few times. The 23w had the 410 pounding on all 8 cylinders without a doubt.
A Feature (25 Laps) Starting Order: 12 12L 9M 11AU 11x D1 57x 5 53 71R/ 24M 6 28 1w 56 9N 13 23w 2D 4
Initial start was good with Jeffrey taking off with the lead with the former WoO field filler Henderson and the Dude coming in tow. The Dude was working the bottom masterfully around the 3/8th mile track and got passed the former field filler on lap 3 with Wertz (yes he's alive!) doing a nana-nana-boo-boo wave with his hand to the nose as it happened! On lap 10 the Dude took the lead from Jeffrey in lapped traffic with a good pass. The only caution was on lap 18 for Dobmeier who lost a front end coming up through the field (didn't see what happened). At this point, most of the crowd realized Winters was up to 4th from 18th in those 18 laps with no cautions. The fast way around the track for the rest of the way was on the slight-rubber that was laid on the high side of both turns. The Dude held on for career win #39 and the first since 1996 in the 410 division to the elation of the VIP section. Jeffrey led laps 1-10, Dude 11-25.
Finish: 5 D1 11AU 23w 57x 11x 53 12 71R 9N/ 4 1w 56 6 28 24M 2D 13 9M 12L
A Feature Grade: A+; getting to see the Dude pass the D1 on a somewhat narrow track and then enter victory lane for the first time in 12 years at the historic track.
360s (18 cars) Rosenboom led all 18 laps from the front row and did everything he could to piss the race down his leg but held on since Casey Abbas decided to do nothing in lapped traffic. Brock Dump was coming and needed a few laps to win it again in lapped traffic, but just ran outta laps. Rosenboom led all 18 laps.
Wertz Quotes of the Night: 7:55 PM (after a B-Mod heat race) "I'm sorry, what did you say? I just slipped into a coma there." 9:06 PM "What a perfect time for a terroist attack in turn 4." The people in turn 4 have been omitted for the Report. 9:24 PM "What the.. no onions at the concession stand this year?!?" 10:10 PM "You can put the delays on me since I showed up tonight." 10:53 PM (before the feature) "The Dude's going through this field like an Iron Chef."
FOAW: Winters gets the entire nod tonight as he doesn't have to share it with anyone this week. Going 18th to 4th in 18 laps without a caution is VERY impressive and it doesn't matter what your name is. Glad to see this kid finally have a 410 and his 2nd career 410 feature at the track is in the very near future if he doesn't wreck it.
Crowd Pleasing Moment: Wertz doing "the wave" as the Dude passed the loveable loser for 2nd early in the race. This moment will take a lot to be topped somewhere throughout the year. Had the members of the VIP laughing their asses off.
WTF: Schliemann taking out damn near half the field in heat 3 by being all over the track.
"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: Sending Maeschen to the back from the front row of the B when he didn't even take off early. Great job sending a 1 time guy to the back, which will surly make him want to come back, especially since he didn't jump anymore than the others during the night.
Head Scratcher: Dobmeier timing in at 18th during time trials after a stellar night at Knoxville.
Thumbs Up: The Dude coming from 8th to pick up his first victory in 12 years. The Report didn't think it was that long since he entered victory lane, but very enjoyful nonetheless. Also to the massive crowd that decided to show their face for this Memorial Day Weekend.
Thumbs Down: The wrecks and the major delays to go with them. The Big J Report sends out their thoughts and prayers to the man who needed assistance before the 360 feature.
Prime Mover: The afformentioned Winters coming from 18th to finish 4th.
Trophy Queen Grade: Didn't get a great look from the VIP section way up in turn 4, but the leather boots and the blonde hair gives these 2 an A+.
Stat of the Night: Another 25+ 410 car count on there. Huset's car count is way up and has to be averaging at the 25 mark so far.
BIG J
