Got a call this afternoon that C.H. Cave had passed away after a long fight with cancer. C.H. was one of the real old timers, starting his racing career in the late '40's. By '52, he was one of the 'name' people at Taft Stadium in the stock cars. He did about everything you could do in racing, and he kept driving as late as the early '80's....THAT is a career. Anyone with a Cave story, feel free to tack it on here....there should be a few. This was taken at the SFS 50th anniversary deal.

My Dad bought a lot of cars for rebuild from CH back in the 70's and 80's from the lot

he had there at SW 23rd & Walker. I remember when he ran a late model, Number 88 with the

flames on the numbers. He ran MOPAR stuff when nobody else did. Barracuda/Charger body out

there with all the Camaros,Chevelle, Torinos etc. Seems like SFS ran modified/supers on Fri night.

Street Stock, Hobby Stock,Late Models on Saturdays ????

I am showing the days of my youth now, huh.

My prayers to the family. Mitch Melton

This is a picture of a much younger Okiegirl80, but more important this was my first car that my daddy bought me and I helped him fix. When daddy asked me where I wanted to go look for a car at I said "CH's" that where I want my first car to come from. Rest in peace CH Cave. Boy, I did alot of brag'in at school about knowing him, I cut a picture out of the State Fair ad of his car during a race and pasted it to my three ring notebook. God Bless. BB

When I was growing up my dad would always tell stories about him. When I saw this topic I went back to the stories my dad told me. The oldtimers are slowly leaving us. Someone needs to get stories from them and put it in a book before they are gone. God Speed
