(The views and opinions expressed in the Big J Report do not need to be taken too seriously)

410s (26 Cars)

Welcome Mat

To the 4 NOSA drivers who raced; Nick Shirek (11), Chris Shirek (1s), Casey Mack (8), and Lou Kennedy, Jr. (21K). Wade Nygaard (9N) also back after a week hiatus.

MIA

The Dude, Barstad #1 in the 410 class, Matthew Reed from last week, Sather (reportedly was racing tonight), Zomer, Robert Bell

Time Trials (1 lap each)

During hot laps, Dobmeier (13) had engine/ignition woes and decided to roll out the backup car instead of trying to fix the problem. The Knoxville car was very fast all night.

Track did not have a lot of moisture to it and it was best to go out early. Chuck McGillivray (101) and Longhair (12L) didn't get a time in. Nygaard and Jody Rosenboom (6) did not get a full lap in. Henderson (D1) set quick time with a 11.180 at 120.571 MPH and the rest of the drivers making the invert through 18th: Cressman (56), Peters (57x), Dobmeier, Jones (9M), Bakker (11x), Kennedy Jr., Runge (28), Mack, Schliemann (4), Meyer (1w), Garner (40), DeWall (16), C. Shirek, Jeffrey (12), Miller (24M), Winters (23w). Alley (22) was the only one to try to run the low line and his time suffered as he was 21st.

Time Trials Grade: C- with the track fading away with the hint of rubber down to come later on in the night.

Heats (Top 6 Inverted from TT, Top 6 to the A with Top 4 Inverted in the A)

Heat 1 Finish: Garner, Jeffrey, Bakker, Peters, Mack, Nygaard
Heat 2 Finish: Schliemann, DeWall, Dobmeier, Henderson, Ballenger (2D), Miller
Heat 3 Finish: Winters, Cressman, Runge, Meyer, Bickett (17B), C. Shirek

Heat Grade: A-; the track was very racey for the heats as there was a lot of passing going on for the slick track. All about momentum for this night and you could get it either running the bottom or carefully maneuvering on the thin cushion up top.

B Feature (Top 2 Tag the A)

Starting Order: Vogelaar (33), Kennedy, N. Shirek, Alley, Jones, McGillivray, Rosenboom (DNS), Lambertz (DNS)

Finish: Alley and Vogelaar transferred on as a couple of veterans in Vogelaar and McGillivray battled the entire race for the final transfer.

B Feature Grade: B; Alley checked out and the good battle for the last transfer spot.

A Feature (25 Laps)

Starting Order: 1w 4 28 11x 13 57x 56 D1 40 16 12 23w 2D 8 17B 9N 24M 1s 22 33

Initial start was good and it was Meyer taking the lead on the high side with others in tow. Most of the eyes were up front for the battle ensuing in the top 5 but Winters was flying on the high side as well as most were on the bottom or middle. Starting 13th he took the 23w around an assortment of cars including the former WoO regular Henderson. All this being done presumably with a 360 (need some verification!) against the big iron 410s in the class. The track started to take major rubber from the Hoosiers about 8-10 laps in and everyone was going the same speed, hugging the bottom for the last 15 laps. Dobmeier was still getting under cars and made it up to 2nd to challenge Meyer for the win but Meyer wouldn't let it happen as he won his 15th career 410 feature at Huset's. The feature paid $3,500 to win with the extra grand coming from Dollar Loan Center. GREAT to see Chad back in victory lane as no one deserves it more than him with everything he's been through the last few years. Here's to hoping a few more this year to the 1w crew! He led all 25 laps.

Finish: 1w 13 11x 4 57x 28 23w D1 40 12/ 16 2D 9N 22 8 24M 56 17B 1s 33

A Feature Grade: C; even though the track laid rubber, Winters was the excitement early with the passing. After rubber was laid, it was all up to Meyer and if he would make any big mistakes, which he didn't.

360s (17 cars)

Good action upfront early as Eric McGillivray was holding off Trisha Underberg and Kevin Flowers. He continued to hold the lead when Rosenboom got up to 2nd and he held him off as well for the victory on a pretty racey track at the time. He led all 18 laps and it was his 4th career 360 feature at the track.

FOAW: Gonna have to split it with Dobmeier who was passing on the rubber down and Winters who was coming forward early passing a ton of cars with that 360 (again assuming it's a 360 with his TT times). Would have been interesting to see what he could have done had the track not laid rubber.

VIP: Was pretty empty tonight without the presence of Wertz. Hopefully he can get race #1 in next week if the Dude does come back. BT24 wants to keep being mentioned in the Report, but this might be the last week he does. The yellow hat on the infield MIA as well.

WTF: Track conditions for the A. I know it was hot, windy, and low humidity yesterday but today was beautiful with 70 degrees, not a lot of wind, and humidity in the air. It woulda been a helluva track had it held on for another 15+ laps, but it just couldn't take much more.

"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: We finally got 2 tow trucks on the infield and the scoreboard was working for the first night as well! It looked like the track should get some work during intermission, but didn't get touched for the first time all year during intermission.

Head Scratcher: Alley during time trials going low for his 1 lap. Love how the guy races and runs a team, but he'll hopefully learn not to do that again and to run the high side during qualifications. Also Cressman running 8th on the last lap and spinning out by himself.

Thumbs Up: To Chad getting back in victory lane

Thumbs Down: Rubber down races suck…

Stat of the Night: Winters 12th to 7th as the hard charger.

Winters does have a 360 in, and yes he was fast as h*ll with those guys. He really looked good.

Big J I wouldn't hold my breath on a Wertz appearence next weekend. I think a weekend in the holy city of the BEARS (Chicago) sounds like more fun than the home of the....

Gotta take issue with FOAW inclusion of Dobmeier...he's already beat them...

What track prep. There was dust blowing off the tires in time trials. I think the Rube's need to spend more time and effort in track prep than they do at the Flandreau Casino. Good job Chad Meyers, much deserved win.

After attending races there for over 40 years in many capacities its sad to see it detoriate steadily in the past 3 years. I was always told if you don't tell people what needs improving how are they going to know, that is if they care.

Dang, likely the closest definition ever of the over-used but virtually non-existant phrase. Some day it will actually happen and if it ever happens outside of the Grove write my obit, thanks! Take It Easy....

PS Keep 'em comin' big fella, very entertaining read....

I mentioned it last week Bill W and I guess I'll have to keep mentioning that WoO victory at Wilmot '06 that actually happened on his first race at the track. Smile

Here's the link from KELO TV that has video of the 360 and 410 features: http://keloland.com/sports/newsdetail7981.cfm?Id=0,69660

Sounds like after Saturday night in K'ville, Dunkins went to Husets to get that track ready. Sad to see our first dry weekend and two tracks failed to fill a water truck!

yeah, since the phase FOAW was invented, it has not only been proven TRUE but RE-PROVEN NEARLY EVERY YEAR since the phrase was coined.

see Mark Smith (beat the WoO the night the phrase was coined), Doug Esh, Brian Leppo and Mike Erdley for further explaination. Dobmeier (spelling?) received honors along the way as well.

nowhere in the process was the locality limited to POSSE SOIL...but it sure has rubbed the velvet the wrong way with those filled with ANTI POSSE VENOM! (see MSPN's posts for real life evidence)

we have a few other local drivers preparing for their rite of passage...as evidence by the ENVY of Chad Little's Fan Club President - FORD97.

Methinks all those wins were at the Grove where it's all about the track anyway. All of those guys have been lapped traffic since if they did get out of the B. As far as those guys being competitive somewhere else, that's pretty funny. Take It Easy....

yep, the Grove is the only track with locals that are strong enough to defend their turf...strong enough to require 2 Outlaws to spend a provisional all most EVERY VISIT...strong enough to put more locals in the field than parts unknown...strong enoigh to SWEEP the PODIUM agains the WOO...strong enough to create a C-Main Chad and D-Main Danny scenario...and strong enough to PISS IN YOUR CORNFLAKES and TURN YOU INTO A MISERABLE OLD MAN 10 YEARS RUNNING!

and here you go...bartender!

Divisions / Count:   (52) 410 Sprints / Cherry Pickers smell blood and tow to feed on the rumored "split" of the circus tent.
Format:  Top 40 TT to 4 Inverted Heats (Top 24 TT), TTs 41-52 to D Main, Heats: Top 4 Transfer, C, B, Dashes for 25 Lap A-Main with Top 4 Locked in for the Grove Open

TT Top 10: 5w, 24, 1s, 11,  7k, 88h, 7, 6, 21, 7s
TT Highlights: Layton and Cole had sour engines in hot laps and never recovered. Mark Smith twists a drive shaft before taking the flag, goes pit side and returns for 1 lap at the end and makes the invert. Several prominent names and cars find themselves in an unprecendented D Main and must race their way to the tail of the C, or off the premises, which ever comes first. Fifty Two cars, most of which are FEATURE WINNERS...and the condition of 410 racing at the Grove Open appears to be healthier than any year in recent memory.
Tower Comment:  Johnny Gibson said "Brad Doty just said Rahmer is the 2nd Best he has ever seen, behindthe King, Steve Kinser". As the results will show, many current and past champions got a driving lesson from the "2nd Best" tonight...and AS USUAL...Posse Fans received an excellent VALUE for their DOLLAR.

Return to Action:  Kevin blow rear end oil on turn 3. Restart: Rahmer lays the slider on Pittman and secures the lead. Kinser hits the wall coming out of 4, white walls both tires and loses a few spots. Kinser continues and regains a few spots, running the bottom in a damaged car. Lap 17: Shcatz and Dollansky going at it. Classic Schatz slidejobs are back! Lap 20: Lance moves into 6th but is out of time as the field has spread out.
Theme: Posse Champ = Wins, WoO Champ = 10th, Allstars Champ = 21st.
Prime Mover:  Tough call as nobody moved up a lot. Split it between Schatz and Lance who both improved thru the "meat" of the field.
Pass of the Night:  Pittman is spared several close call slide jobs as Rahmer tested the grooves before finally taking the spot.
Crowd Pleasing Moment : Kauffman brings the crowd to their FEET in heated battle with Kinser.
FOAW Spotlight : Posse FOAW turn QT and make the A.
Attrition:  Kevin took out Leppo.
Hard Luck Award:  The BRR Hard Luck Award goes to the "local" Bass Pro Shop, here in Harrisburg. A new store in a new market with money invested in advertising gets screwed yet again. I am not interested in fishing, but I hope their trolling motors are more reliable than the multi-million dollar anchors.  In a year where the condition of "local racing" is on every tongue, we see a split in series loyalty with a promise of "taking sprint car racing to a new level". Tonight pretty much summed it up, the new level must be provided by someone OTHER than the RACERS. The racers have only one possible contribution: quality performance. We always see locals "Pack It In" when they are out of equipment, but when you travel the country on a large budget, FANS and SPONSORS expect to see an ATTEMPT TO RACE. It is a sad day to see sprint car drivers moth the light of Nascrap just to collect the guaranteed signing bonus. Yes, a NEW level is about to be unveiled and NEW could be better. But do remember that NEW can be beaten to the delight of the fans. With the current state of sprint car racing, there is no better place to be than POSSE SOIL.
WTF:  Kauffman, DeWease and Leppo (all made thhe Dashes) were penalized 1 Row by the tower for failing to "back out" of their pit in time! Please point out where this has happened ANYHERE ELSE? The IRONY of the tower and WoO O-Fish-yals to penalize a driver for pissing around is a total joke.
Track Note:  Can we run the show slower and blame it on 3 drivers?
Evaluation of the Racing Product:  Where can you buy a ticket and have a 50% chance to see  an Outlaw Asswhipping?
Fast:  Rahmer
Half Fast:  Hodnett, Kemenah, Saldana
Quarter Fast:  Shepard, Lasoski
The Beat Goes On:  Kevin took out Leppo.
Missing:  Posse Regulars would have pushed the car count to 60 and beyond.
Mulligan Moment:  D Main Danny
Travel Advisory: One last chance for the WoO as we know it. 2005 Posse / WoO TIE BREAKER TONIGHT.
VIP Section Guests: DrakPak, Van May, Leppo Grand Parents and the usual cast of characters.

Closing Comment: Thanks for the opportunity to provide a Special Edition BRR Report. I am tired and a bit rusty after a break in the action, so I apologize for any irreagularities in quality of the contents. This will be the final BRR Report of 2005 as tonight will a "spectator" night for me and the guests of the VIP Section. Many flocked to the Tilton Hilton last night where Brent and Wimp were gracious host to many out of state visitors, Posse regulars and popular racing icons. Van May, Johnny Gibson, Al Consoli and many others joined in the fun. Please consider joining us for the Chili Contest today at 3pm.

Return to Action:  Kevin stops under caution, pushed to pits, out of fuel? Kinser and Kreitz take to the bottom and move by Sammy in the challenge for 4th.
Theme: Miserable ass track conditions after a run of perfect tracks in recent months. Good POSSE Performance, spitting the Top 10 and field. Looks like 6 Outlaws were parked for the A Main! Not on par with 4 local cars making the A as in parts unknown, but we have to start somewhere with our comparisons.
Prime Mover:  Pittman: Finished 9th from 21st.
Pass of the Night:  Kevin Swindell in Heat 4. Blowing by the 30, 24, 71, 5w.
Crowd Pleasing Moment : Paulus tags the rear of Heat 4 after missing TT due to the connection to the turn 3 fence. Made his way thru the field and pulled even with the Hammer and RODE A FULL SPEED WHEELIE TO THE FLAGS…missing the transfer by a photo finish, and spinning on the bottom after he put'er down. Simply amazing, and clearly the Crowd Pleasing Moment for the traveling Mechanicsburg native.
FOAW Spotlight : Leppo DENIED McCarl (6 Time Kville Champion) an A Main start, just one night after holding off Rahmer for 33 straight laps at the Lincoln. Lucas Wolfe struggled on dismal track conditions. Erdley hits Shaffer as he was moving forward in the heats. Mark Smith spun in his heat after the Hammer got sideways in front of him.
Attrition:  TT: Shepard NT, Paulus hard in the wall in turn 3, back up car for 1 lap.
Hard Luck Award:  The BHG Hard Luck Award tonight went to Young who flipped twice. The BRR Hard Luck Award goes to Paulus who wrecks in TT, brings out the back up and nearly transfers after the best wheelie of all time, ALL THE WAY TO THE FLAGS…AT SPEED.
WTF:  Track Conditions: Pathetic. Stevie Smith and Sides nearly collide on the backstretch as BOTH cars are pushed off for TTs, Sides from the FS and Smith from the BS.
Track Note:  Back to CLEARING the scoreboard after the events…I guess the advertising is not selling as planned.
Evaluation of the Racing Product:  Heats: C-, A-Main: C+ ; Dismal Track Conditions = Dismal Racing Product.
Fast:  Hodnett
Half Fast:  Hodnett
The Beat Goes On:  Once again POSSE has more cars in the Top 10 than parts unknown transfer to the A.
Missing:  Nouse, Stambaugh, Coldren, Knopp, Kluge.
Mulligan Moment:  12 No TT: packs it up before dark. 24 DNQ. A good businessman would have used this opportunity to do a product demonstration of a TREE STAND on a backstretch lighting pole and gain a better vantage point for "viewing" the A main to boot.
Travel Advisory: You made the tow, why didn't you run the A?
VIP Section Guests: 71fan, Leppo Grandparents, Qman, Skinner, 1080 among others.
