Geving shakes off rough night in Petaluma All Pro Series and heads for Chico Civil War event

By Bill Sullivan

PENNGROVE, CA (5-11-08) – Every athlete has a bad day now and then, Michael Jordan didn’t win every basketball game in his career, the New England Patriots were eluded from the super bowl they were expected to win and even though its with great despair, such athletes have a special skill. The have the ability to put misfortune to bed, learn from mistakes and remain optimistic about events to come. At just 16 years-old, winged sprint car driver Alissa Geving of Penngrove, California proved she is no exception to that special quality this past weekend.

For the entire racing season, Geving has been on a success streak in California sprint car racing with top finishes in nearly every event she has competed and the ownership of the All Pro Point Series Sprint car point lead at Petaluma Speedway. This past Saturday, Geving and her Chick-O-Motorsports suffered their fair share of hard luck aboard the Pit Stop USA – Matt Cordeiro Construction #3x sprint car. Despite the breeze of ill fated luck, Geving maintains her home track point lead and is already looking forward to a big event this coming weekend.

In qualifying Saturday night, Geving turned the fourth fastest lap on the Petaluma 3/8 mile track with a 13.155, placing her n the outside of the second row in her heat race. After finishing 3rd in the 8 lap qualifying the current Petaluma Speedway All Pro Series point leader started the A-feature in the third position. Just three laps into the race, misfortune struck the Ursuline High School Junior when she suffered a damaging roll over to draw a red flag.

Although the car suffered its share of damage and was not handling properly, Geving’s crew made quick repairs, enabling her to return to the track surface with front end damage and the lack of a front wing to earn valuable points towards the All Pro Series championship. When the checkered flag flew she finished 7th overall.

“We had a really bad night tonight,” said Geving. “It was the first flip of the season and hopefully the last. Nothing really went our way all night. This happens to everyone I guess. We still have our point lead and that is what I am focusing on. Holding on to that will be my main priority.”

This coming weekend, Mary 24-25th Geving will travel to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico to return to the Hoosier Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series. The weekend will include two different races in on the Silver Dollar clay. Saturday night will be a non-points race to test and tune the car for Sunday’s grand affair that will bring California’s best drivers to compete beneath the sights and sounds of the colorful Silver Dollar Fair.

The up and coming two day show at Chico is something I am really looking forward to,” added Geving. “I am very excited to get back to that track, I love it so much. I can’t wait to test myself with California’s best drivers.”

With just three events complete in the 15-race series that competes at 6 different California tracks, over 50 different drivers have competed in the Civil War Series. Geving currently sits 12th in the standings, just 61-points from the lead. In the Civil War Series a driver can earn as many as 80 points in one night of racing, which indicates how competitive this campaign is and how well Geving has fared so far in the series looking at the point statistics thus far.

Alissa Gevings’ title sponsors include Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Pit Stop USA, Auto Repairs Unlimited and A1A Muffler. Additional sponsors include Parker Stores, Sequoia Logistics, Tillet Tool, KalembasTireCenter, Rossi Auto Body, Afex Graphics, ALC Machine Century 21st Healthy Club, Hose Doctor, Spin Tech Mufflers, Fast Lube Plus and Kaeding Performance.
