Tyler Walker wins exciting Chris & Brian Faria Memorial

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – May 10, 2008…In the world of sprint car racing few drivers are more exciting that Los Angeles’ Tyler Walker and San Jose’s Tim Kaeding. The pair always seem to get that extra little bit out of their machines and both were at it again Saturday night at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway during the annual Chris & Brian Faria Memorial.

When all was said and done it was Walker who came out on top to score his second Golden State Challenge Series win of the season. “I just can’t say enough about this SC Motorsports team,” Walker said. “Lee and the guys have this thing running phenomenal and I’m so happy to be able to race out here with guys like Tim Kaeding. The track was awesome tonight and it gave us a chance to really do some racing.”

The 30 lap Chris & Brian Faria Memorial main event started out with Campbell’s Brent Kaeding jumping out into the lead. The defending King of California was in search of his first season win and would lead the first seven laps before T. Kaeding began to apply the pressure. “TK” was riding the rim of the well prepared 1/3 mile clay oval and shot to the lead on the ninth circuit aboard the Tom Rolfe Trucking No. 10. “BK” wasn’t done just yet however, and he slid back below the No. 10 car to get side by side with him a lap later, but “TK” got the momentum he needed to take over the lead without any questions on lap 11.

As the two Kaeding’s were battling it out for the lead Walker was putting his nose into the action and would power around the elder Kaeding for the runner-up spot on the 12th lap. The driver of the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 then began to reel in the No. 10 car and the pair proceeded to put on a show for the fans as they manhandled their 850 horsepower sprinters around the high side of the Thunderbowl Raceway. As they battled it out through traffic Walker completed the pass on the 19th lap and held onto the top spot until a caution flag waved on 22nd circuit.

Over the final eight laps of the feature Walker and T. Kaeding traded slide job after slide job as the crowd cheered them on with approval. With Willie Williams' white flag in hand Walker got enough separation to give him the breathing room he needed to drive off and pick up his first career Chris & Brian Faria Memorial victory. With the win Walker became just the second driver to win multiple main events with GSC this season.

Tim Kaeding drove on to pick up a runner-up finish, his third straight result of second or better with the series. “We gave it a shot and just got beat by Tyler tonight," T. Kaeding said. “We had some changes in our crew this week and we’re just going go out the rest of the season and try to have some fun.” Completing the podium was Brent Kaeding who has run consistently in the top three over the last month in his Al’s Roofing Supply No. 69. “We were pretty good but those guys up front are just running so well right now it’s tough to beat them,” B. Kaeding said.

Rounding out the top 10 in the feature were Craig Stidham, Bud Kaeding, Tommy Tarlton, Ronnie Day, Jonathan Allard, Stephen Allard and Evan Suggs.

The Western States Modifieds saw a fantastic main event as well with Kenny Nott ending up as the winner followed by last row starter Bobby Hogue, current point leader Brian Cass and Paul Stone. The racing fast and furious throughout the pack as the dirt mods put on a breathtaking show. Full results will be available at
