Ok here is the deal?

Last Oct or Nov my wife and I bought airplane tickets to Tulsa, but we ended up not going. So I basically have $1000 credit for airfare anywhere in the 48 states. But because of kids and work schedule we can only get away for the weekend, or a long weekend.

So coming from California where would you, what race would you see?

Help me out, or we will do something she wants to like visit a nearly dead relative.

Thanks

Butch

I live in Knoxville, within sight of the track, but if you ask me, I would take a few days over a

weekend and catch two or three races in PA. I have been to many tracks from Perris to the Syracuse Mile, but think it would be great to catch some of that

Pennsylvania racing at Williams Grove, Sellinsgrove, etc. I think the schedules around there enable you to catch a few races on consecutive nights. I am not a big fan of the people of Pa but I think that would be a ball.

My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

Been to hundreds of tracks/races around the country and I'd recommend the Outlaws at Williams Grove for sure. The excitement, passion and anticipation is the closest thing to the Nationals you'll see. Nobody hates to lose more than the Posse and most there know this is the only place they have a chance and often they succeed, dang! There is even tension in the pits as the drivers for the most part wanna make the A let alone win, often it's that tough. Heats and invert actually mean a lot and you'll see more good cars on the trailer come A-Main than anywhere else in the country.

Gettsyburg is an interesting place, there are lots of good golf courses in the area and better than average tail-gaiting for hours before the races. You won't regret this weekend and won't forget the racing either. Enjoy, Take It Easy....

Oval Nationals. And you wouldn't even have to leave California.

Here is a great weekend of both wing & non-wing racing;

  • 7/8 - 360's at Eldora ($6,000 to win w/ T. Stewart, K. Kahne & D. Blaney)
  • 7/9 - WOO @ Limaland (Brad Doty Classic)
  • 7/10 - USAC @ Lawenceburg (Ind. Sprint Week)
  • 7/11 & 7/12 - WOO @ Eldora (Kings Royal)
  • 7/13 - USAC @ Kokomo (Ind. Sprint Week)

* You can fly into the Indianapolis or Cincinnati aiport.

Some very good suggestions above - but I've been to all of those places... If I could go anywhere new it would probably be to Oswego to see the Supermodifieds - never been able to make it way up there.

Gee, thanks for stereotyping everyone in Pennsylvania based on what you read on here from a handful of people. The most obscenity laced bashing of PA teams and fans in recent months came from a fan that is a Knoxville regular. Pot, kettle, black, all that sort of stuff.

Just a couple comments about Oswego, since it has been mentioned in this thread. Oswego has really fallen on hard times in recent years. The regular shows now struggle to get 20 Supers and the International Classic barely draws enough car for a B-main anymore. Weekly racing and the Classic at Oswego isn't what it used to be.

Thanks these are all great suggestions.

I will talk it over with the Mrs. and see what she is up for but the idea of going to PA is interesting to me.

Thanks again

Butch

IMO the finest open wheel action you can see is at the Chili Bowl, although NASCAR nation is spoiling it to an extent.

A close second would be the Wednesday and Thursday action at the Nationals.

Indy Sprint Week would be time well spent, but there is an investment in time required there.

The National Open at WG is a fantastic weekend to see a race in PA. Lots to see and do while there is no action on the track. Chili Cook-Off, EMMR auction, etc. Best of luck, look us up if you make the journey!! Despite what darbo insinuates, we're a fun group and we'll show ya a great time.

"The Outlaws have people out here that don’t know
anything about racing. I don’t understand how they
come up with some of the calls they do. It makes me
think that they just might be that stupid. It’s
scary." -Steve Kinser

I would go to the Dirt Cup in June in Washington. Plus since it is only about $200 per person round trip you can go back for the Bob's Burgers and Brew 360 Nationals in July.

Merlin,

If you come to PA I highly recommend a visit to Selinsgrove. One of the fastest joints you will ever see. The weekly program is limited (358) sprints but they usually put on a helluva show. The 410 cars are absolutely a thrill to see. The early July PA speedweeks is the best sprint racing in the country.

Some videos I found on Youtube. The first is some guys in 358's that I believe rented the track for an evening.

Not a very forgiving place for sprint cars....

These are also 358's that I think were renting the track for practice.
