Peter Murphy Finishes 2nd in Battle Royale!

By Gary Costa

Santa Maria, Ca – May 5, 2008…Peter Murphy and Team Tarlton, made the trek on down to Santa Maria Speedway to race with the non-wing Bandit Sprint cars.

After qualifying The Tarlton & Son, Inc., Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Kaeding Performance, Ridgeline Framing, Sharp Insurance, VMAC, BR Motorsports, Fresno First Bank, Pro Signs, #21 in the 4th spot, it was race time.

Peter, who is looking to extend his Bandit point's lead, drove cautiously in heat race #1, which would also be his first race on the evening. He eventually brought the Tom Tarlton owned Shark powered #21 Maxim home in the 2nd spot.

In the main event, Peter had his elbows up, and proceeded to get into an old fashioned slug fest with fellow competitors, Danny "Showtime" Sheridan, and fellow masher Albert Pombo.

These three drivers put on an absolute show for the fans, as they were swapping positions on every lap. 30-laps later, Peter crossed the line for a well fought 2nd place finish.

"I had an absolute blast!" Peter stated after the race. "It's really fun to be able to race side-by-side with these guys. I sure hope the fans enjoyed the show, because I know that I did!"

Next race for Peter Murphy will be May 10th at Bakersfield Speedway's 1/3 mile clay oval, for another round of exciting Bandit Sprint car action!

Haven't heard much about Victorville other than the muffler rule, did the $400 to start the race get raised yet? $5000.00 to win is great and that seems to be what everybody is talking about but it sure would be nice the see a few bones at the back of the field for the little guy too.

That's good starting money for a sprint car A-Main in California, don't think you'll find that at any other CA races. The more the better though. The folks that are putting these shows on have a good thing going. Hope they can do a lot more of it.

Thanks for the great post Gary. I'd like to add props to Greg Brag in his first night out in the black 11 McGowen machine. All four drivers brought it and drove the wheels off. Although Bragg faded at the end he was a factor through the first 2/3's of the feature, leading the first 1/2. One could have thrown a blanket over the top four at points and on lap within one lap, Pombo went from 2nd to 4th to the lead! All of them brought it. Sheridan was elbows up and Peter was so quick and smooth. It was absolutely one of the best 360 features in a while and certainly of this young season. I wanna buy the video...
