Mason Moore finishes 6th in Chico on Friday night
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – May 5, 2008…Consistency has been the name of the game for 17 year-old Mason Moore at Silver Dollar Speedway this season as he once again brought home a top 10 finish this past Friday night during the fifth 410 point race of the season. The strong run has moved Moore up to third in the track standings in what is just his second year of sprint car racing.
The Silver Dollar Speedway saw one of its fastest surfaces in recent memory on Friday night as the top 18 qualifiers were all in the eleven second bracket. Moore’s fastest lap of 11.939 put the Rolling Hills Casino, NOS Energy Drink sprinter 17th fastest overall. The actual fast time for the night was just a tick off the regular season track record.
The qualifying lap set-up Moore to start on the front row in the night’s opening heat race and he charged into the lead at the waving of the green flag. The driver known as “Primetime” handled the talented field and drove away to pick up his first heat race win of the year at the quarter-mile bullring.
Starting 10th in the 25 lap Ashley Furniture night feature the Princeton driver moved forward quickly and put the Moore Insurance Services, Platinum Powder Coating No. 22 into position to challenge for a top five. Moore ran a smart race and at the checkered flag he tallied a sixth place finish in the competitive main event.
On Saturday Moore headed for Placerville Speedway’s Tribute to Al Hinds and picked up another heat race victory before finishing 21st in the main event. The youngster currently sits 16th in the Civil War standings heading into the next event, which takes place at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Memorial Day weekend.
This coming Friday will find Moore and the No. 22 team competing at the Silver Dollar Speedway in the sixth 410 point race of the season. Moore is one of only two drivers to have finished in the top 10 during all five point races held thus far at the Chico track. He currently sits 25 points back of leader Andy Forsberg and eight points behind second place Sean Becker.
