Bud Kaeding brings home another top five with GSC

By Gary Thomas

Quincy, CA – May 3, 2008…Campbell’s Bud Kaeding earned his fourth top five finish in the last five Golden State Challenge Series events by tallying a fifth place result on Saturday night at the American Valley Speedway in Quincy. Beautiful day time temps gave way to a bit of rain that caused the evening to run longer than expected and the main event didn't end until just before midnight.

After finishing 10th on Friday night in Chico Kaeding and the BK Motorsports team made the haul up to Quincy on Saturday to compete in the 10th race of the GSC season. Kaeding had last competed at the 3/8 mile dirt oval in August of 2006 when he brought home a second place finish behind father Brent.

A bit of rain just before qualifying delayed the program for a little bit and put a lot of moisture in the racing surface, which made it lightning fast to begin the night. Once qualifying got underway the 28 year-old cut a fastest lap of 15.078 placing the K & N Filters, High Five Pizza Maxim seventh fastest overall.

Kaeding then finished fourth in his heat race and seventh in the dash to put him on the inside of the fourth row for the 30 lap main event. The American Valley Speedway is a long track with very tight corners and coupled with the fast track it made for limited passing opportunities. The two-time and defending USAC Silver Crown champ got up to fifth early on and ran there until the checkered flag dropped after 30 laps of fast paced action.

This coming weekend will find Kaeding compete in Watsonville on Friday night aboard the Werbach Motorsports No. 20 machine during the third point race of the season at the Ocean Speedway. Then on Saturday he will be back behind the wheel of the Alviso Rock, Kaeding Performance No. 29 during the annual Chris & Brian Faria Memorial at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway. Kaeding will go into the night sitting fifth in the Golden State Challenge Series point standings, just a couple digits behind Tyler Walker for fourth.
