One thing is for sure, Mr. Sheridan can drive a 360. Did I count right? Only 16 cars at Santa Maria last night? That's rough for a series that was much hyped at the beginning of the year. What's going on with the Bandits Pete Curto?

Good morning Rad,

It was a fantastic race and I am proud of all of these guys.  They put on a show that had the crowd on their feet for whole show.  Danny did a great job but he had to earn his win because Peter Murphy, "Fast Albert" Pombo and Greg Bragg made interesting up front.  All through the field there was great racing.  Rusty Carlile and Richard VanderWeerd dropped back and worked their way back to the front and Wes Gutierrez and Ron Wade had their battles going on too. John Itturriria, Steve DeMott, and Jared Little mixed it up too.  Jonathon Logan, Jace VanderWeerd and Bill Jones had their runs shortened by mechanical troubles.

Rick Eberhardt did not start because of damage from a heat race crash.  Justyine Hamblin hit the wall hard in qualifying and the damage to her and the car was significant.  Justine IS a tough racer and the crash bent her seat up, it was a very hard impact.  I know she is sore but we all hope she has a speedy recovery.

Why wouldn't I be hayped?  These racers are great all 36 of them! 16 Cars isn't necessarily indicitive of anything negative with these racers.  We have 36 teams who have earned points not counting the VRA teams that raced at the first grand slam.  Not bad is it? Take into account the travel costs, some that cannot race because of work and some that damaged motors/equipment are going to keep out for a time.  And we have more cars coming, but it may be a more transiatory group.  And the way this deal is set up there is something for the teams that limit the radius of travel, local Championships as well as the Series Championship as well as the Grand Slam.  There is and was some forsight and respect for varying conditions that allow teams to participate. This is working well!

Like I said, these teams make me proud for them.  And I'd like to welcome home Steve DeMott from Iraq, he came home Friday night and was racing Saterday night.  More later...

Thanks for the quick response Pete, I sure do apprecitate it. Hey Pete, I posted a question to you a couple of weeks ago regarding the Victorville Open Comp. race on May 31st. I will post it again here: According to an earlier post, every other series is dark on the evening of May 31st. Why can't the Bandits and Kings Speedway do the same thing they are doing this weekend, move their race to Friday night. I seem to recall Daveyboy writing that the reason for this change was to give the Bandit drivers the chance to race at other race tracks on Saturday night. Why not do the same here? This would give the Teams in the Bandit series an opportunity to participate in the Victorville Open Comp. race, and win some big money. I would sure like to see the likes of Peter Murphy at Victorvill on the 31st. Are there any chances of this happening Pete?

I am told Greg was busy with work and getting his car together. He'll be back soon. It takes alot of money to race and he is looking for sponsors if you know anyone who'd like to help his cause.

Jimmy Thompsons car owner Joey Eames of Eames Trucking is currently focusing on business concerns that the market has presented. He wants to race but first things first. Perhaps a few nights later this season or if someone wants to sponsor a champion.

These two talented drivers account for a combined 6 championships

so I agree, they are missed.

Simply put it takes great effort to cancel or rescheule a race. I can appreciate your concern though. That is something for promoters to work out at say the RPM deal in Reno in December, not when others have made plans and commitments.

Also as we have seen, there are those who limit their travel because of the danged fuel costs. It is a free country and drivers/teams are free to race where and when they choose. I would never hold anyone back that wished to participate in any event. That being said, I do love to all of our teams and drivers. I am a fan of all of them and hope Sheridan and Pombo and any of the other Bandito racers go and take home the money and the glory.

But we are still racing on the 31st with these great people. Best of luck in Victorville, any successful program benefits the community at large.
