For Immediate Release: Ashley Furniture Night at Silver Dollar Speedway
Kaeding's Galore This Friday Night
(Chico, CA 4-29-08)...Feather Falls Casino Championship Auto Point Racing continues this Friday night, May 2, at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. The 410 sprints, street stocks and wingless sprints are all scheduled to compete during round number six. The 410 sprint car winners will receive $2,000 for the main event win sponsored this week by Ashley Furniture Home Stores. Out of town sprint car drivers scheduled to attend include Brent, Bud and Tim Kaeding along with Jason Statler and Roger Crockett. These out of towner's will mix it up with the regulars including Chico's Jonathan Allard, Brett Miller and Fast Eddy Lewis. Over 25 winged 410 sprint cars are expected.
Front grandstand gate will open at 6 pm. Racing is scheduled to start at 7 pm. Adult general admission is $11.00. Seniors and Juniors are $9.00 and children are $5.00. The sprint cars will qualify followed by all three divisions racing heats and main events. Ashley Furniture is set to give away a free mattress with a random drawing.
Tim Kaeding won his 47th career Silver Dollar Speedway sprint car main event last Friday night. He sits in the fourth spot all-time sprint car wins at Silver Dollar Speedway. One more win and he will tie Wayne Sue for third on the list. The all-time leader in wins at Chico is Brent Kaeding with 86. Bud won two main events at the Fall Nationals in 1997. For most of career Bud has chased non-wing sprint car dreams back in the mid west or he too would have many more wins. Add them all up and it equals 135 times that a Kaeding has stood in victory lane at Silver Dollar Speedway. The next closest active racing family is the Allard brothers, Jonathan and Stephen. They have combined to produce 41 wins at the speedway. With three Kaeding's scheduled this weekend there is a good possibility that win total could rise.
Auburn native Andy Forsberg continues to lead the Feather Falls Casino point championship in the 410 sprint division. He held a seven point lead over Oroville's Sean Becker going into last Friday night and that is exactly the same amount of a lead he left with. Becker and Forsberg are setting themselves up for a long grinding season of weekly racing for the championship. Jonathan Allard sits in the the third spot and will look to improve on last Friday night's roll over in the main event while leading the race. Second year driver Mason Moore of Princeton is continuing to hold his own against the veterans and now sits fourth in points. Sacramento's Willie Croft led a few laps in the main event last Friday night but his night ended with a hard crash into the front grandstand fence. He will be set to challenge for the win and the extra money put on the line courtesy of Ashley Furniture. The top ten is rounded out with Chico's Jason York in sixth, Robbie Whitchurch in seventh and Brett Miller in eighth. Orland's Zack Mason moved up one spot to ninth and Chico's Matt Shelton is tenth.
Rookie driver Keith Bloom continues to impress at the race track. He leads the wingless sprint division by 19-points over Taylor Simas. Both drivers are still in their teenage years. Simas is currently a freshman at Chico State and developing into the a seasoned driver. Mason Myers of Browns Valley is currently third. Paradise driver Justin Funkhouser is fourth. Mason's brother, Cody, rounds out the top.
The street stock division is quietly becoming the most contested point battle we at the speedway. Former track champion Scott Rogers leads by one point over runner-up from last year Heather Bartlett. In fact, the top one through seven are only separated by 14-points. Last year's champion Jeff Olschowka is only four points behind Rogers in third. Phil Marino is fourth and just six points behind Rogers. Joe Longmire rounds out the top five just 11-points out of the top spot.
