Wayne Johnson, driver of the Wayne Simmons F5 Chassis midget had over $900 in cash stolen out of his trailer today at the Chili Bowl. That was their tire money for the week. I think it's just disgusting!!!

I am so disgusted to learn about this incident. One of the many things fans love about sprint car drivers is that they can roam around in the pit area and have access to the drivers. I know Wayne is thrilled to be at the Chilibowl this year and is on a low/budget. I only hope they can recover the $900 so he has enough to buy the tires and for other expenses.

I didnt know people still carry cash, especially that much. If it was from a sponsor or personal money for racing, why wouldnt they have used a credit card for proof of expenses on taxes ?

There is actually quite a bit of cash that runs around in the pits... lots of business is done that way.

Quick example, think about how much $$ a driver can take in in t-shirt money in a night. It doesn't take that many t-shirts at $20 a shirt to accumulate a pretty good sum of cash.

OK, we've got people walking around in the pits that will steal a guy's tire money, and you feel the need to point out how much cash is floating around on a given night? Maybe that was left unsaid?

The poster said that he didn't think people (racers) carried that much cash... was just pointing out that there is a LOT of cash in the pits on any given night, didn't think it was some big secret... anyone who spends any time in the pits should be able to put 2 and 2 together. Sorry I "let the cat out of the bag".

Erin, if you can find a location in Tulsa to pick up Western Union cash let me know and I'll send ya $500 to go towards tires.

Call me on my cell.

That's way cool CW..... but don't take it all on yourself.  I'll try to wrestle some OKC Wayne fans to chip it.  Let's make a combined effort to help without you sticking yourself out that far.  Heck maybe can get enough that you could use the $500 on a flight to see us!

Twenty8 : Nothing like blaming the victim! Not that it should matter why he had cash, but he had just sold some parts to help buy tires.

Thanks to everyone who's trying to help. Carwash...you have a heart of gold!

Hopefully things will be better on his qualifying night!

It doesn't matter if it is 900 dollars or 9 dollars a thief still needs his ass kicked. I hope they that find the stealing bastard and hang him high . I hate a thief as he not only stole from wayne but he also maybe stole a night of great racing from the fans.

Scott, thanks for the thought, it's a done deal though. Erin first refused but I called her back and explained that refusing wasn't an option. Besides, I've slept on their couch enough to make this about even.

Of course if you still want to collect something for Wayne, I'm sure it would help.

I hate to see something like that happen to anyone and especially people I consider friends.

I hope everyone as a fun time at the Chili Bowl and I'll see you there next year.
