Mike Henry scores 9th place finish in Tulare

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – April 26, 2008…Competing at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway for the second time this season former Civil War Series champion Mike Henry brought home a ninth place finish in the main event on Saturday night during the ninth race of the Golden State Challenge Series season.

Henry and the HMH Motorsports team came into the event off a strong third place finish the week before in Petaluma and sat second in points going into the night. The previous event at the Thunderbowl in March saw Henry have his career best night at the track, which ended with him finishing sixth in the main event.

Despite warm day time temps the 1/3 mile clay oval saw a racy track all night as promoter Steve Faria and the track prep crew worked on the speedway all week long hoping to give teams and drivers a great track to compete on. Henry kicked off the night by qualifying eighth fastest with a lap of 13.330 aboard the Royal Lagoon Pools, World Environmental No. 93.

The Sacramento driver then finished second in his heat race and eighth in the dash to put him on the outside of the fourth row in the 30 lap Golden State Challenge Series main event. The fastest way around the track was right up around the fence in turns one and two and after falling back a little bit early on in the feature, Henry regrouped and moved forward to bring the C & H Veteran Enterprises, Don Ott powered Maxim home in the ninth position.

Next Saturday will see Henry and HMH Motorsports make the haul to the American Valley Speedway in Quincy for the 10th race of the Golden State Challenge Series season. The traveling 410 group made its inaugural visit to the 3/8 mile dirt oval last season and Henry will look to put the No. 93 machine up front during this upcoming weekend.
