Mason Moore brings home top 10 in Chico

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – April 25, 2008…Competing on Withrow’s Motorsports & JP’s Paint & Body Works night, Princeton’s Mason Moore recorded his fourth top 10 finish in as many starts during the Feather Falls Casino Silver Dollar Speedway point series.

After a couple weeks of tough track conditions, the Silver Dollar Speedway preparation crew put together a great track that saw a couple grooves of racing all night, which was also very fast and hooked up during the event. Moore went into the evening sitting fourth in the track standings, just 12 digits out of the lead.

The surface was great for qualifying and Moore ripped off a quick 11.658 second lap around the quarter-mile, placing the Rolling Hills Casino, Nos Energy Drink machine sixth fastest overall. In fact the top 10 qualifiers were all in the 11 second bracket with Willie Croft’s fast time set at a blazing 11.508.

Moore lined-up fifth in the night’s final heat race and battled it out with Mike Monahan for the transfer spot during the eight lap contest, but finished just shy of the No. 49 car and was forced to run the B-main. In the 12 lap semi the 17 year-old fell into line second and followed former track champ Jason York for the duration of the race and brought home a runner-up finish to transfer the JP’s Paint & Body, Withrow’s Motorsports No. 22 into the main event.

The 25 lap main event saw Moore start sixth and after battling it out in the top 10 during the early stages, he slowed for a red flag, but unfortunately the driver behind him didn’t see it soon enough and hopped over the right rear tire and flattened it, forcing him to pit. After getting the tire changed Moore restarted at the rear and over the final 15 laps of the feature was able to carve his way back forward to score a 10th place finish.

The Moore Financial Services team will return to Silver Dollar Speedway next Friday night for the fifth point race of the season. Then on Saturday the team will make the drive to Placerville to compete in the annual Tribute to Al Hinds, which also marks the third race of the season for the traveling California Civil War Series. The A-main winner of the Tribute to Al Hinds will receive a nice $3,000.
