Brett Miller charges from rear to 7th at Silver Dollar Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – April 25, 2008…Chico’s Brett Miller rebounded from last week’s disappointment to charge forward and record a seventh place finish Friday night coming from the rear of the field after an opening lap bicycle off turn two. The 18 year-old was able to use the cushion on the expertly prepared Silver Dollar Speedway clay and made some great moves to get back up and record a good finish.

Going into the evening Miller sat 11th in the Feather Falls Casino Friday night point standings and looked to make up ground in the standings. The night of competition was sponsored by Withrow’s Motorsports and JP’s Paint & Body Works, two great supporters of sprint car racing from the Chico area.

Miller was slated to start the 25 lap main event in the 10th position, but after checking up for another driver in turn two on the start, the Care Free Pools No. 1x bicycled and nearly got upside down off the second corner. The young driver was able to cowboy the car down and it stayed on all fours so he was able to get pushed off and restart at the rear of the field in the 20th position.

The “Catfish” got away from his nickname as the green flag came back out and immediately went to the high scary side of the speedway aboard the JP’s Paint & Body, Platinum Powder Coating Maxim. Miller blew around several cars right from the get go and got back up to the top 10 right around the midway point. He continued to charge forward and after battling it out with a handful of drivers over the remaining laps, Miller brought the car home in the seventh position at the checkered flag.

It was a good way to the end the night as Scot Clarke and the gang put a great set-up in the car and Miller did a fantastic job ripping around the cushion in the feature. The 18 year-old was also in some good company during the main event as all six drivers that finished ahead of him were former Silver Dollar Speedway 410 sprint car champions.

The Care Free Pools Racing team will look for more good things next Friday at Silver Dollar Speedway during the fifth race in the Feather Falls Casino point season. Then on Saturday Miller will head for the American Valley Speedway in Quincy to compete with the Golden State Challenge King of California Series for the first time since the Mini Gold Cup. Last season Miller scored a fourth place finish in Quincy during the GSC event at the track.
