For Immediate Release: Rookies Mix it Up With Veterans

Championship Auto Racing Continues this Friday Night at Chico

(Chico, CA 4-22-08)...There is quite the battle going on between the veterans in the sprint car division at Chico against the young guns. During point race number four this Friday night, April 25, this on going challenge between the older drivers and the young guns continue. Joining the racing action are the wingless sprints and dirt modified's. All of this championship racing takes place under the Feather Falls Casino point battle. Sponsoring this night is one of the speedway's best friends. John Perry of JP”s Paint and Body Works along with Don and Sandy Withrow of Withrow's Motorsports are both sponsoring the nights sprint car racing. Both are proud supports of the race track and usually can be seen in the grandstand or pit area of every race. The 410 sprint cars will once again be gunning for the $2,000 main event winners check.

Front grandstand gate will open at 6 pm. Racing is scheduled to start at 7 pm. Adult general admission is $11.00. Seniors and Juniors are $9.00 and children are $5.00. The sprint cars will qualify followed by all three divisions racing heats and main events.

Auburn's Andy Forsberg leads the 410 sprint car point standings. This veteran has seen his share of racing at the Silver Dollar Speedway. “When I first started racing up here about seven years ago the only guy who was a seasoned veteran was Shane Scott,” said Forsberg. “If you look at the points from then and the points today you'll see that a lot of us racing back then are still racing today and we now are taking on the roll of veterans.” Sitting in the second spot if Jonathan Allard of Chico. Allard won the championship in 2001 and continues to be lead by example. Last Friday night Allard won the main event that moved him into the second place in points. “I try to offer as much help to the younger guys,” said Allard. “But man, they are getting fast and sometimes I think they are figuring this thing out way too soon.” Sean Becker sits in the third spot. He started around the same season at Forsberg and continues to impress with his skilled driving. “My first year in sprints we tore up a lot of stuff,” said Becker. “It's a big learning curve you go through. I came out of the Outlaw Karts, like many of these young sprint car guys have, and I am impressed at how well they are picking up driving sprint cars.” Fourth place in points is one of the young guns. Still in high school, Mason Moore won the main event two weeks ago and is coming off a staggering rookie season. Even though he has about four years under his belt of racing, Kyle Hirst is still barely out of his teens. Hirst is heavy on the methanol and a constant threat to win any race. Chico's Robbie Whitchurch is only in his third year of racing but sits ninth in the point standings. Orland driver Zack Mason enters his second full season of racing at the speedway. He currently sits in the tenth spot. Just outside the top ten in points is third year driver Brett Miller. Miller is a former rookie of the year and has wins at the speedway. “I remember when I was the rookie and trying to ask questions and figure things out,” said Jason York. “Now I'm that guy who is getting approached with questions from the younger guys.”

Joining the action this Friday night are the wingless sprints and dirt modified's. The wingless sprints are lead by a crop of youngsters. The top five in points are drivers still in or just out of high school. The modified's are led by Dave Duste Jr. who won the opening round of championship point racing.

JP's Paint and Body Works along with Withrow's Motorsports will be throwing t-shirts and other goodies into the main grandstands for the fans.
