Mason Moore finishes 6th in Chico
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – April 18, 2008…Just one week after picking up his first career sprint car win, 17 year-old Mason Moore came back last night to pick up a sixth place finish in the 25 lap Silver Dollar Speedway main event. Strong winds as the day went on created another tough racing surface for competitors as the bottom groove was the place to be come feature time.
The track started off wet though as the John Padjen Motorsports crew did the best they could with the conditions given. Moore came out eighth in the 28 car field for qualifying and his best lap of 12.665 put the Rolling Hills Casino, NOS Energy Drink No. 22 ninth fastest.
The Princeton driver then finished fourth in his heat race to transfer into the night’s 25 lap NMI Industrial Contractors sponsored main event. Lining up seventh in the field Moore immediately headed for the bottom of the speedway which had become very fast for the main event.
The youngster got up to sixth early on and ran there for the duration of the race aboard the Moore Insurance Services, Platinum Powder Coating machine. At the checkered flag he crossed the stripe in sixth for another good point’s night at the Silver Dollar bullring. Moore ran a smart race and hit his marks lap after lap, just as he did last weekend.
Moore and the No. 22 team will return to action next Friday night for the fourth point race of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway, which is also sponsored by Withrow’s Motorsports and JP’s Paint & Body Works.
