I just got off the phone with Steve Howard at So-Cal Performance. He reports that the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Races at Calistoga Speedway on August 30th and 31st ARE CONFIRMED AND STILL ON. Any reports that state otherwise are incorrect.

The races have been comfirmed by the USAC National office, the USAC Western States office, the Napa County Fairgrounds, and the Vermeil Family.

In addition to the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, the USAC Western Midgets will compete on the famed Northern California 1/2 mile track.

For more information: Tickets, RV Parking Reservations, and more- call the Napa County Fairgounds at 707.942.5111.

Steve Howard is still raising money and accepting donations to make this an event to remember. So-Cal Performance can be reached at 562.862.9122.

I cannot confirm from the Fair's point of view, but I did speak with Steve Howard at So-Cal Performance and he says, it is a confirmed GO. He seemed to be a great guy to speak with and I am sending him some money, as he has worked very hard to make this happen, and that is pretty nice considering he isn't making anything from the deal. I just really want for this weekend of racing to happen to once again see the sleek non winged sprinters flying around the Calistoga 1/2 mile and to honor Mr. Louis Vermeil, I had the privilege of working with Louis during the NARC days and he was a very special man and truly deserves this honor.

Your right Rick, Steve is working hard to make this happen. Originally I was told (by a very reliable source) that Dave Swindell (Santa Maria promoter) would be the promoter for the Calistoga race. I don't know where that is at this point. I think the problem is finding a promoter and a race sponsor for the Vermeil Classic. I join you in hoping this event becomes reality. Just my two cents.

I am getting tired of riding this YOYO. On again, off again, I as much as anyone would like to see this race happen, well except maybe Chad, he is doing a lot of lobbying and fighting for elbow room.

Mike Kenney is not longer the man in the Can at Calistoga, he decided to retire after 24 years of "service" at the beginning of this month. (Along with the head of the maintainance deptartment for the NApa County Fair) The intrem CEO is a lady named Patty Sereni, who prior to this month was the business assistant for the fair grounds, interestingly enough her father in law is long time fair board member and current president Marvin Pistonie. Forgive me if I have mis-spelled as name, it isnt my for forte.

Now what we have failed to disclose in our ride on the YOYO is that the choice to have this race isnt happening at the level of the fair manager, it is being desided on by the board. This board inparticular isnt really interested the revenue that this race will create, becuase as we all know, they dont have enough places to put all the people that would attend. This race is centered around the ego, politics and self imposted importance of the board.

Now I am not suggesting that you ask to speak with fair board memebers, they arent available. Nor do they feel they should be approachable by people that respect them for their stature in their comunity.

But they do read the news paper, so do the other people in that community. They do meet at a monthly meeting, that meeting agenda is avaialbe to the public. They have a public comment period at the board meeting.

There are ways to make a voice heard, but at this point for my interest I would just like to have comfirmation that the YOYO ride is over.

One reason they dont want this race is that they would have to admit to the greatness of a man who didnt bend to egos, didnt kiss their asses, and had the ability to hold men accountable for their words and actions.

Lets hope for the best.

so are you saying the name "louis vermiel classic" is the problem getting this thing done? now i vote for a wal-mart, a taco bell-burger king-mcdonalds-arco-shell-valero combo store and a ripple wine tasting room right in the middle of the place.

Merlin! What a wild post. Not that a forum requires facts but at least try to be half accurate.

#1. Chad would very much like to see this race happen. Is Chad foaming at the mouth over this race? Well maybe, but this is what he grew up with. Non-wing sprint cars, traditional sprint cars what ever you want to call them, it's what turns him on. When it comes to non-wing, he is a true foamer! ( sorry Chad it's a train thing you would'nt understand!)

#2. Patty Sereni. Marvin's daughter in law? Wrong again merlin. Patty's ex-husband Terry has a brother how is married to Marvin's daughter. Close but no cigar.

#3. Marvin as the fair board president? Once again wrong. Bill Squire is the president , not Marvin. Please merlin, where oh where are you getting your supposed facts from? Don't trust what you read from your cracker jacks box.

#4. The fair board has taken a lot of heat on this particular race. How many members do you know personally merlin? Can you name any by there first name aside from Marvin? Would you state the same statements to there face?

#5 Not sure what your last comment was in regards to? Not willing to kiss there ass? Who, where when? Team wright-one has asked the same question as well. Please resubmit.

I, along with all the other folks posting and lurking would in deed love to see this event come to be. I truly believe it will. Give it time? How much time? The final announcement is right around the corner. Believe it or not this is true. No kiddin, absolutely, order up!

No race fans I am not a fair board member just a race fan with a little bit of know about what is going on with this race. When post are made that are simply bunk it just chaps my hide. That is the reason for my vent. Yes, I to have fallen victim to Hoseheads the message board

Merlin one last comment. When posting , theres a tool bar on the top of your post column. See the ABC? Yeah click on that. Don't worry, you wont get a virus.Yeah buddy that deal there will help you spell. Boy howdy, that way the rest of us can understand what the heck you are trying to say. ABC = SPELLCHECK

Stoga-

Thanks for pointing out my errors, last night it was late when I posted and I wrote it more out of frustration then fact. It was a show of poor judgement on my part.

I guess what I was trying to share, was that I was tired of riding the on again off again yoyo. I knew when I wrote it, I should of just held my tongue. I would like someone who to establish fact and share with the rest of us, and I went off half cocked with bits and pieces of information that in turn made me look like a putz. Whoops

As you pointed out about Chad, there are a lot of us that are very passionate about seeing this race happen. I have very fond memories of what I consider to be the better days of Calistoga, and selfishly I would like the opportunity to relive the past, and share a little bit of that history with my children who dont always understand why the pictures on the wall mean so much.

I would like to support his race in attendance, financially, and even volunteer my time if needed. Sadly in my own mind I can not come up with a reason that this race wouldn't be win / win situation for all parties involved. In my mind the only thing that I keep coming back to is that it fails to meet an agenda somewhere.

My apologies to anyone I may have offended.

Butch Brazil

Merlin, Was your dad the Napa County fair manager at one time? Say in the 70's?
