I just got a phone call from Steve Howard at SoCal Performance and he said that he sent a check to The Napa County Fairgrounds and secured Labor Day weekend for "The Louie Vermeil Classic". He was a little disturbed since nobody with the fairboard ever called him to give him a deadline or amount needed so he had to fork out $25 to overnight them a check.
So now it's up to all of us fans to make sure that the place is packed on Labor Day. I will post a copy of the flyer as soon as USAC gets it to me and then we need to spread the word. Maybe since someone else is promoting and running this show then we can get some real figures to show the fairboard that they are letting that track go to waste. If not, then lets just have one last hoorah at that famous half mile.

YES!! This is the best news in this racing season so far to date! I will be there in full support, camping at the track and all. I guess i will get a mini California Speedweek this year after all. Calistoga for Labor Day Weekend and then Gold Cup a few days later..........SWEET!
Trophy Cup......Best race of the year hands down!

Wow! Thanks Steve Howard! I really hope this is the real deal and we can really get the non- wing race that weekend. I don't think there will be a problem getting lots of fans and drivers to come. I have never been to a USAC race so this would be my first and I have been to hundreds of winged sprint car races. I would love to put up fliers around the Sacramento area if you need help. This is truly great news for sprint car racing in Calistoga!
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

racecars on dirt!

what a weekend with the 48th running of the johnny key classic at ocean speedway on Friday 8-29 and then out to stoga for the 2 days of cra Saturday and Sunday,reminds me of the old days baylands friday/saterday- San Jose Saturday- and stoga saterday/sunday- lol -north vs south-now if its true about the midgets being there too (theres no midgets usac or bcra scheduled to race anywhere that weekend) it would be like a weekend gift from god----i better start saving gas $ its going to be an expensive week but worth every penny lol
