Travis Berryhill brings home 4th at Placerville

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA – April 15, 2008…Fighting a tight race car Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway, American Canyon’s Travis Berryhill soldiered on and despite that fact was able to score a fourth place finish by the end of the 25 lap feature. Overall it was a solid night as Berryhill was able to qualify strong and lead laps in the main event.

The event this past Saturday at the high-banked Placerville Speedway was the first visit of the season for the traveling BCRA Midgets and a total of 21 cars were on hand for the division. Going out late in the qualifying order Berryhill was still able to crack off a 12.054, which was good enough to put the Vallejo Coin Exchange, Red Line Oil No. 11 third fastest overall.

After finishing seventh in the second heat race, Berryhill then found himself on the outside of the front row in the main event. At the waving of the green flag in the 25 lap contest he blasted out into the lead aboard the Impact Racing Products No. 11. Early on Berryhill looked like he might be the car to beat, but as the race went on, the car tightened up and he had to man-handle it around the bullring.

Berryhill was able to lead the first 10 laps of the main event before midget ace Robby Flock got by for the lead in traffic. The rest of the race saw him battle amongst the top few cars and at the checkered flag Berryhill sat in the fourth position. “It was a pretty decent night for us, but we really had a shot at winning the deal if we hadn’t have tightened the car up so much,” the American Canyon driver said. “Our midget was good at the start, but I just couldn’t hang on towards the end of the race. We’ll take a top five though and come back next time and hope to put this thing into victory lane,” Berryhill concluded.
