Andy Gregg ends week on good note at Petaluma

By Gary Thomas

Petaluma, CA – April 14, 2008…Placerville’s Andy Gregg capped off a three race week by finishing in the seventh position Saturday night during the second round of action for the California Civil War Series, which was held at the Petaluma Speedway. It was a solid way to end the week after a couple of events that didn’t exactly go how Gregg and the team would have liked.

The long week of racing began on Wednesday night at Placerville Speedway with the re-scheduled season opener for the Civil War Series. A strong field of 42 cars was on hand for the event and Gregg was charging in the main event when he flipped over the cushion while battling for the second spot. He and the Guts Racing team then returned to action Friday night in Chico for the inaugural running of the Bill Brownell Memorial. Gregg qualified eighth fastest in the 34 car field and then found himself on the front row of the 25 lap $3,000 to win main event.

The track surface had become very difficult to pass on during the main event and Gregg tried a couple different lines on the speedway during the contest and at the checkered flag he crossed the line in eighth aboard the Myers & Sons Drywall, Dale Miller Plumbing No. 16x.

Looking for better things Gregg headed for the Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night for the season’s second Civil War Series race. A 40 car field of winged 360 sprint cars were in Petaluma and the 28 year-old timed in fifth quickest with a lap of 13.068 around the 3/8 mile clay oval. Gregg then finished third in his heat race to transfer into the main event where he would go on and finish just behind Alissa Geving in the seventh spot aboard the Comstock Mortgage, Straight Line Roofing Maxim.

This Saturday night Gregg and the Guts Racing team will return to the Placerville Speedway for the third 360 sprint car point race of the season. Gregg is coming off a second place finish during the last point race a couple weeks back at his home track and has been the fastest qualifier at both events so far this year.
