Zack West finishes 8th in semi at Bill Brownell Memorial
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – April 11, 2008…Chico’s Zack West came back to Silver Dollar Speedway this past Friday night and finished in the eighth position during the B-main at the second Feather Falls Casino point race of the season.
The inaugural Bill Brownell Memorial at the Silver Dollar Speedway saw a very successful night of competition as 34 winged 410 sprint cars showed up, as well as one of the largest crowds in point race history, with the exception of the 4th of July events. The size of the crowd was similar to the kind audience that is on hand for a Gold Cup Race of Champions prelim night when the traveling World of Outlaw drivers are on hand.
West began the evening by qualifying 18th quickest aboard the Ing Excavation, Community Construction, Butler Built Performance No. 14. He then found himself on the front row of the second eight lap heat race, which just happened to be arguably the most stacked one of the night. The Silver Dollar Speedway features some of toughest weekly competition anywhere and with the inaugural Bill Brownell night paying $3,000 to win, it brought in a few more hitters during the night.
West got up on the wheel in the heat race to take the lead, but a shock issue and a couple of bobbles in the turn two rough spots allowed 13-time King of California Brent Kaeding, former Silver Dollar champ Jason York,’06 King of California Jonathan Allard and defending track champ Stephen Allard to get by. At the checkered flag West brought home a fifth place finish, putting him into the B-main.
In the 12 lap semi the youngster sliced and diced with a number of drivers as the track slicked off and in the end he drove the Franklin Construction, Pace Supply, Cinecon Group JEI No. 14 to an eight place finish. West and the We St-ing Racing team will come back next Friday night to the Silver Dollar Speedway looking to change up the luck at the third Feather Falls Casino point race.
Giving thanks- After the heat race incident during the opening point race in Chico one week ago, it took a lot of help to get West out for the B-main. We would like to thank Morrie Williams, Ashley Smith, Rod Fauver, Randy & Tres V, Lee Watson and rest of our team for making it possible to get back out on the track.
