My good friend George Welch, promoter at Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada tries not to post but is an avid lurker here on tidbits and has been reading - with much interest - the fire safety topic here on tidbits.

He suggests and strongly recommends Fire Free Products and is also a distributor for them. Their website is www.firefreezesupersystems.com if you would like to check out what they are about. He is a strong believer and says anything he can help with will be his cost as this topic is very important too him. They also build car suppression systems and says it works in water. It is almost like foam but foam takes time to ready for use and this stuff stays in water.

George thought we would all be interested in this.

Oklahoma Sports Park is yet another track that would be ill-prepared for a major fire rescue. The fact is that most tracks in the area simply aren't ready for a problem like the one that occured at I-44. In reality, there are probably few short tracks in the U.S. that could handle a Wolfgang-like situation or God forbid a replay of the Hutch inferno. Knoxville is the only one that comes to mind. That being said, the burden falls on the drivers to equip themselves with as much protection/supression equipment as possible to make up for the shortcomings of the facilities at which they race.

I have been to several Pa. tracks numerous times and Williams Grove has a truck with a foam system on it and I know Lincoln and Selinsgrove and Grandview have mulitple fire trucks and all the people working in those vehicles wear a uniform, head sock, gloves, jacket like fireman wear and respond to every crash big or small that I seen while watching at these tracks , so I think there are more tracks out there than just Knoxville that can handle a large fire.

While there is all this talk and concern about racetrack fire safety , might want to take a look at your own place shop/garage, have a friend in Pa. runs a 358 sprint car and was burned badly in a shop fire back in 1998 when welding a piece of alum. and then had a fuel jug spill over by one of his crew/helpers filling his fuel jugs with a hand pump out of a fuel barrel and splashed all over him and the alum. piece which burnt his arms ,neck, stomach and some on his upper legs, luckily it only got his eyebrows and some of his hair as he used his arms to sheild his face, watched him go through a year of healing up as well as tight itchy skin ordeal and then a bunch of rehab to get his muscles under the burnt skin back in shape, It made me think about doing things differnet at the garage/shop from then on, keeping all type fuel jugs out of the garage area and away from welder and cutting torch, I keep the solvent tank and other flammable spray cans on the opposite side of the garage away from the welder and cutting torch , put up no smoking signs and not allow anyone to smoke in the garage , just another type of safety you need to think about at your garage/shop to prevent an accident like what happened to him , He has told me it was carelessness on him and his crews part that caused the fire, but that is why they are called accidents I guess. Just something to think about too while were talking about fire safety.

As a driver I feel safer racing at Ada than any other track. They have a truck that is equipped with a fire hose and is quick to respond to anything, also they carry fire extinguishers on the 4 wheelers when going to a car, which is better than some tracks. Oklahoma Sports Park is pretty quick to throw the red, sometimes a little too quick, but better safe than sorry.

If I were a distributor of a product, I would suggest and strongly recommend it too.

You're not even fast enough to worry about these issues.
