I will be at the Chilli Bowl for the first time and would appreciate info with respect to free parking locations and approaching from the airport. I have a street map of Tulsa which shows the fairgrounds and the streets on its boundaries, but no details of the grounds themselves.

Since you have a map you already know the steets, use this link to help you visualize the rest:
http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=&ie=UTF8&t=h&om=1&z=16&ll=36.134738,-95.924678&spn=0.007036,0.014462
the big white roofed rectangle building is your final destination. The white thing that juts out on the south side of the building a little to the left of center is the main entrance. (zoom in on the link and you can see the Golden Driller statue or at least his shadow)
Yale is what you will be taking south off of 244. Notice the ball diamond on Yale and 15th and then the waterpark on Yale and 21st. This is where you turn right. See the middle "E 21st Street"? just below the black roofed upside down L shaped building (Microtel Inn hotel) on the map? That is where you turn in to find a spot to park (unless you paid for the $100 preferred parking spot).
I don't know how far to the west you can park for free in front of the Expo center, but the enterances are at the main entrances as described before and a couple on the west side of the builidng that lets you into the trade show area. (after the show you can exit on the southeast end as well as in the middle of the south side) Unless you get there early, plan on parking all the way to the west or maybe even behind the building to the north (all the trucks hauling the trailers are parked behind the NW side of building...it's gets crowded there). If you get there later than most (and they do arrive early each night) you will have to park in the horsetrack parking lot.
Be forewarned, the parking lots are slightly sloped and they aren't quite sure how to use salt to melt the (very early I know, but.....) forecasted freezing rain on Saturday. I've seen cars start playing bumper tag all on there own!

Park on the NW corner and walk to the single door on the SW end of the building. It is the shortest walk without having to pay for the parking.

Well, there went the locals best kept secrete. As in the past, there will be shuttle buses running throughout the parking areas and even the rv park to carry people to the front door. I don't know if these buses also run after the races or not. Can someone in the know, answer that. If it's in the low 20's Saturday night as predicted, that will be a long coooooooold walk for a lot of people. The forecast is calling for temps in the 50's through friday, then the arctic cold coming in Saturday. sure hope it gets held up in Mikeys country at least one day....... Just 2 more days!

Yes, bumper tag all on their own is very good description of what can happen there if freezing rain happens. One year I saw 30 cars litteraly cars parked door to door! Now that's maximizing parking for ya.

as you turn in the main entrance I think everything on the expo side is the paid parking cause it's always roped off. We always park free north of the hotel and ride the shuttle that comes by every 5 minutes or so. they do run after also though there is a back log with everyone leaving at the same time.
if you want to really get a feel for how big this building is get there early and walk from the main parking lot. that front door is father than it seems. you will have plenty of exercise. especially if your seats are in turn 1 and you have to walk the length of the buiding again inside to get to your seats. lol
its all worth it .

Don't know if this is the proper thread for this, but last time I was in Tulsa ( a couple of weeks ago) there is no Exit off I-44 on to Yale. this is usually the way we get there but this year we will need to take I-244 then get off on Yale and go south.
