Tough luck catches up to Brett Miller again in Chico
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – April 4, 2008…Chico youngster Brett Miller came into the opening point race at Silver Dollar Speedway looking for good things, but unfortunately the bad luck bug caught up with him yet again in the 25 lap feature as he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Miller timed in 13th fastest among the 29 car field, which put him in the second row of the night’s final heat race. The 18 year-old got a great start to put him into second on the opening lap, before former GSC champ’s Jonathan Allard and Tim Kaeding were both able to get by. Miller kept focused and brought the Care Free Pools, Platinum Powder Coating No. 1x home in the fourth and final transfer spot.
Miller then lined up 12th in the Feather Falls Casino point race opener main event. At the waving of the green flag the racing action was extremely intense right around where Miller was running as the track was tacky and fast with some bumpy spots in various areas. With just a few laps completed in the feature, the car in front of the 1x machine got sideways and Miller had nowhere to go as he contacted the spun car and came to a stop. The crew was able to get him back out, but he pulled off shortly thereafter as the motor began to lose power and scored an official finish of 17th in the Wolfe Electric, JP’s Paint & Body Maxim.
Next week will see Miller and the Care Free Pools Racing team will be right back in Chico on Friday for the rescheduled Tribute to Bill Brownell. The night is sponsored by Chico Custom Cycles, Pro Pool Tile Cleaning and John and Robbie. The winner of the 410 sprint car main event will receive a nice $3,000. Then on Saturday the 1x will be in action with the California Civil War 360 Series at the Petaluma Speedway.
