I will be in the DFW area this weekend for the NASCAR races; I know, I know my BAD!!! LOL!! I still plan on checking out some local dirt track racing, namely the ASCS show at Cowtown. Just wondering is the facility put on an efficient and well run program so they can get the fans outta there at a decent hour. What are the car counts usually like, particularly the sprints. Who are some of the more well know drivers in the area. Can I expect to see guys like Gary Wright, Travis Rilat or any of the other ASCS boys I've seen run at the 360 Nats in Knoxville?

you will see all the local Dallas cars as well as Kevin Ramey, i'm sure Rilat will show up...there will probably be at least 30 cars show up....most of the ASCS Sooner guys will show up....always a great show plus to see who gets to do the customary donuts on the go kart track in the middle of the track after winning the show....you never know...we had Carl Edwards show up two years ago a run with us, it could happen again???

Rilat should be there. no Gary Wright - he don't hardly ever run any regional shows. Jason Johnson could be there - he'll either run Cowtown or the Gulf South stuff. Ramey lives right by the track - and doesn't miss a race there unless there is a regional or national ascs race in Oklahoma or Texas.

Car count is a bit more complicated. Cowtown has gone to complete ascs rules for the 1st time this year (i think). so more of their local guys should be able to compete.

George White will for sure be there - as he is a Kennedale native that runs mods there. And Trey Robb pilots a team car for White's car owner (Swofford) so I imagine he should be there as well - if they got the motor thing from Devils Bowl taken care of. Others you'll for sure see are Andy Rhea, Claude Estes, Johnny Miller, JP Bailey, Justin Melton Colt Walker, ASCS National Drivers Kathryne Minter and Eric Baldaccini. The up in the air part is who will attend from Oklahoma. Most of the Sooner Region guys out of Oklahoma are from the Tulsa area - and a few others from other parts of the state. and there is wide variety from there that have competed in the past. Kenneth Walker, Cody Branchcomb, Brian McClelland should be there for sure. But other possibles are Sherman Davis, Michael Brown, Gavin Punch, Nick Smith, Dex Eaton, Foster Landon, Andy Shouse, and also another national tour driver - Zach Chappell - could make the tow. There are undoubtedly others - but I'm just goin off past races down there and stuff.

Outside of Oklahoma City - overall I would say Cowtown is one of my favorite tracks. The extremely high banked 1/4 mile provides for some of the best sprint car racing you will see any year. Always had a great time down there. The track also has an unusual setup where the cars enter the track in turn 1 - but have to come through a chute like 10 ft. in front of the grandstands - and they sit right up on the track. Great fans down there too. I'd advise to get there as early as possible to sit as high up as possible. I'd guess the car count at 23-26 on the low end ------ to 32-35 on the high end. But you never know. They had weekly shows last year there where like 33 sprints showed up and it really suprised everyone down there. Cowtown also one of the best promoters in this region - Bo Rawdon. and there is another dirt track that sits within 150 yards from Cowtown. In fact, if you are sitting at the top you can turn around and watch racing on the other dirt track - its called Kennedale Motorsports Park (KSP). I think KSP is mostly an IMCA track.. All in all man - if you're alreayd going to be there it would be insane not to go. If I didn't have to work I'd make the 3 and a half hour trip to go. Awesome track, awesome facility, awesome food, and most of all , awesome racing = an awesome time.

anything else man go to www.cowtownspeedway.com

they have a forum too...............

Some of the best sprint car racing I have seen has been at Cowtown (and I've seen a lot of racing). Also - they generally run the sprint A Main before the supporting classes so if you don't want to see those races you can generally get out pretty early. On the down side that means that most of the sprints have left before spectators are allowed in the pits. This show will be so much better than the ones at TMS - it isn't even a challenge, in my humble opinion. Of course, I also say that if you are missing NASCAR just drive around I-365 in Dallas - especially West bound toward the airport. Nose to tail at 80 mph - only these folks don't know how to drive. A real challenge.

It might be pretty chilly out there so bundle up. The stands are high and facing North (with a view of Ft. Worth in the distance). Really a neat little bullring.

I made the trip down last year during Nascar weekend, it was a bit of a disaster. First, Waco was cancelled on Friday Night due to rain and tornados. Then a tornado was spotted in the DFW area. Saturday it was very cold and windy at Cowtown, of course I didn't bring a heavy coat with me on the airplane.

But to answer your question, the racing at Cowtown is very good.

I've got a press release going out in a few hours for this event - but to add to Jeff's, Carol's OKC's and Tim's comments:

-As a convenience, you can purchase your event tickets at www.CowtownSpeedway.com ahead of time with your credit/debit card - and there is no extra charge for the service.

-The ticket price for an ASCS show is very reasonable, $15 for adults and youth/kids get in at their regular admission prices of $5/$2. No parking charge, very reasonable concession prices too.

-Here's the current forecast, which looks much better than '07's spring race: Sat
Apr 5SunnySunny

73° high, 51 low, 10% precip -The sprint A feature is run when Bo feels the track is best for their feature. Normally it's the first or second feature out, and is on the track by 10pm. -If you'd like to see some video clips from several Cowtown ASCS events, just go to www.darinshort.com/race.html and check 'em out. Hope to see you all out there on Saturday, it's sure to be another great show! (And are we starting a prediction contest? If so, my guess is there will be 33 ASCS cars in the pits Saturday night. Winner gets a famous Cowtown cheeseburger with everything.)

Thanks to all you guys for the info. I'm looking forward to Cowtown as much as the NASCAR stuff. It'll be my first racing experience in the state of Texas.

FYI: ASCS shows that Jason Johnson is scheduled to race in Houston this weekend (see http://www.ascsracing.com/ascsnews.asp?region=3 for more info), weather pending. Right now there is a 50% chance of precip in the Houston area on Friday; but Saturday's weather there looks good; so we'll see what happens there.

They're still calling for strong storms in the DFW area on Thursday, but Fri-Sun shows dry and mild.

OKC fan,

There are 2 tracks right next to each other. The other track looks like a nice place. I looked it up on Google (sat. overhead shot). I hope they don't both run on the same night(?) That would be odd.

Cowtown is a great place to race and a cool track. I would luv to be there but the ascs sooner region pays NOTHING!!!! Guess thats how Emett has a 300.000.00 bus? Go Ramey...He likes racing the sooner for nothing.

they do run the same nights ------- at the exact same time. and I would hedge a bet that they will be this saturday. Just remember that Cowtown is the one to the north. lol.

yes it is odd, but kinda cool if you sit on the top row of cowtown.

ironically - it somehow doesn't seem to affect the car counts that much at all. lol.

There will be a weekend this summer when the ASCS Sooner Region runs KSP on friday and then Cowtown on Sat. ------ and on nights where the ascs-type weekly sprints are off at cowtown - they will rac KSP. odd deal for sure. think how much better it could be if one went to friday and the pther raced saturday.........................
