Hats off to Pat Cannon ("the future of 410 racing' - buzzkill, 2006) and the local Highlands Team who romped the Grove BOMBERS last night for his first career 410 win. In only his second night of 410 racing, Pat took a commanding lead in his heat race and won it going away to earn a front row start in the A Main beside veteran PA Posse / WoO racer Tim Shaffer. At the green, Pat took off like he was shot out of a cannon, leading the field with a 5 car lengths coming out of turn 2.
Pat lead the race flag to flag in spite of several yellows which erased his margin over the chase group. Excellent racing in the closing laps as the top 4 cars - Cannon, Shaffer, Bolke and Montieth ran under a blanket in traffic at the historic half mile.
During the pre-race commentary, several points were brought to light by the VIP Brain Trust. Only 21 cars scheduled to start the race had ever won a 410 race...Cannon was one of the 3 non- winners who were eyeing the rite of passage. Only 14 of the cars scheduled to start had ever won an A main at a "best of the rest" event (WoO / NST / King's Royal / Slick 50).
Sprint Car Feature - 25 laps - 1. Pat Cannon, 2. Tim Shaffer, 3. Ryan Bohlke, 4. Brian Montieth, 5. Fred Rahmer, 6. Brian Paulus, 7. Don Kreitz, Jr., 8. Lance Dewease, 9. Chad Layton, 10. Greg Hodnett, 11. Alan Krimes, 12. Brian Leppo, 13. Mike Erdley, 14. T. J. Stutts, 15. Mark Smith, 16. Tony Bruce, Jr., 17. Todd Shaffer, 18. Michael Carber, 19. Craig Keel, 20. Niki Young, 21. DNS - Doug Esh /Cody Darrah - got together on the FS in the warm up laps for the A Main.
So my question to dirtracer84 and his dirt motorsports fan club...
1) How much time do you need to point out the BOMBERS in the field above, whom you spoke so much about in your recent rash of posts?
2) Did the "best 410 racers in the country" rent a DVD last night last night, like a contract performer on a circus night off?
Thank you to all local and traveling RACERS who supported our local promoter's "silly" and "risky" early races. The hardcore fans appreciate the efforts you put fort...while others, stuck in parts unknown...denegrate your efforts like trolls...chained to the underside of the sewer cover they call home.
and as always...thanks for playing and have a nice day, the corn can be planted any day now...
