Thought I'd share some photos and memories of the CASA sprints from the years past. One thing I'll always remember about CASA was the diversity of cars and drivers that would show up for the events. At the Carson City shows for example, besides the usual Beast's and McCreary OCR's, we had a couple of J&J's, a Nance, and a Trostle, and to ice the cake, a couple of one-offs to boot! The drivers were no different, as there would always be an unexpected "shoe" show up and add to the excitement. I for one hope that CASA will re-emerge and continue their association, but if not, I have some great memories. Thanks for the memories guys..................Troy White

The first time I went to this track it was in 1976 and I lived in Carson City. Its a shame to see the track and association leave this place.

Do you remember the weekly Supermodified class? "Big Daddy" Bud Sherwood , The "Reno Rocket" Ed Evans , "Wild" Bill Sullivan , Tom Silsby , Harold "Smitty" Schmitt , and Gary Ogden were some of my heroes that wheeled the winged machines, and in the Superstocks it was guys like , Chris Jahnke , Jerry Coonzey in the "Purple Haze" #97 Chevelle (god I loved that car) , and "Wild" Bill Leopard who drove a '59 T-Bird convertible complete with a Supermod wing on top of the cage with leopard skin sidepanels! (might have been gone by '76). I remember that car having a Ford 427 under the hood , and it was BADASS! In later years (late 70's) I remember Harold "Hollywood" Long being the guy to beat in the Superstocks (I think they called them Latemodels by then) and that's about the time that the Supermods dissappeared (SUCKED!) I have some great memories of that place...............

Here's a shot of "Big Daddy" Bud Sherwood from about '75-'76 going through turn one. (photo credit goes to Sprintcarz)The flags in the background line the walkway from the ticket booth to the grandstands

Didn't Fred Hunt run up there after his move to Carson City. He raced a super for a big realtor in that area. He was one of my early favorites at Stockton's 99 Speedway.

That's cool! Gary's car that he drove was also the 4n. Mike's car in the picture sports rack and pinion steering (notice the absence of a drag link) plus many other innovative features. Gary and Mike were both at the Mini Gold this year, and it was great to see them and have a few beers together.

OH YEAH! Flyin' Fred Hunt was sooo fast! He was always a consistent frontrunner and feature winner, and was also one of my favs! If memory serves me correct, his car # was a black 8-ball. GOD I wish I had pictures from that era! I've been searching for years now, but to no avail. The one above is the only one I've got thanks to Sprintcarz. Hopefully one of these days I'll run across some.........
