Hello from the north. Reading from the recent post you folks sound pretty worked up with USAC. Will Calistoga really happen? The USAC site still has a (T) next to this race. All I can say is I hope you southerners figure out something soon before we northerners find something else to reserve for the three day weekend. People will only wait so long before unrelated racing plans are made.

The driving force behind the Calistoga race has been Dick Vermeil who wanted a non-wing race presumably to honor his father. It kind of sounded to me like if there are any issues, it's coming from the track wanting more than Dick Vermeil was able to provide. That info is about 3 months old so perhaps things have changed since then. Perhaps USAC is part of the issue as well but I don't believe so. If you are looking for more info, you might consider contacting Steve Howard at So-Cal Performance as I believe he has some sort of involvement in putting the people together for that race.

I spoke with Steve after the last sprint show at the PAS about plans for Calistoga. He is busy selling laps for the race (we bought two) and is busy trying to get a sponsor. It appears that all things are on schedule as he was waiting for a poster to advertise the race from USAC. He may have the poster by now. On opening day at the PAS they had flyers posted at the ticket windows advertising the race. I have high hopes that the race will be run as several in my family (being from Norcal originally) are planning to attend the first annual Lou Vermeil Classic.

I found this website on the Norcal board. It is TW Racephotos http://twracefotos.com and has a bit of the history of the last traditional sprint car race at Calistoga. Plus other information and photos of course. Nice website.

I think that "stoga" is just trying to get some feedback from the racers and fans to see if you are as excited about runing at Calistoga as we are about seeing it finally happen. We've had our hopes up a few times over the past couple of years and it always fell through. It sounds like Steve Howard is doing all the work and we want to Thank him for that because we love Calistoga and would love to have you guys put on a show for us. There are a bunch of people in Northern California that want to help. I've spoken to Leroy VanConett (8 time NARC Champion and Hall of Fame Driver) a couple of times and he has people who are excited and who also want to donate some money to the racers. The major concensus seems to be, "We want to help, but the money has to go to the racers". With fuel prices and the economy the way it is, we know that coming this far north is a huge expense, so people want to help and make sure that ALL the racers get some help! So please get the (T) removed from the USAC schedule and let us know if you are excited about coming to Calistoga or not?

Alright, 259 looks and only 4 responses. 2 of those from tripcrwn. Racerx3c speaks better than I. I think he received a B in Ms. Rays Calistoga high English class and I a C or possible a D. At any rate we in the north bay would just like to have a firm date set so that we may inform all of our friends and family's of this great event. This may not be much but I called Steve and bought a lap to show my support. (Thanks tripcrwn for the info.)

Chad-

Do you have the contact information for Steve Howard?

I know some people that would like to put money up for laps, or maybe even travel money.

Drop me a line so I can pass on the information

Thanks

Butch
