I don't find myself on this post much these days but visited today and felt compelled to post on this particular topic. This topic is something most everyone here expected would happen but wished for the best. For the first six months after USAC came to the west coast, the true reason for their proposal and possible fallout from his decision was a very hot topic with many older fans and participants with a true understanding of how USAC works. At the time there was many who were not happy with the current arrangement on the west coast under the direction of Ron Shuman and SCRA. You had the right guy, you just didn't know it.

I don't think I can remember when the last time the So Cal sprint cars had a president that some did not have a problem with, no matter how hard or well the president tried to run a high level Regional association. I am not a participant and only know what I see on the outside and my instincts as a human, but this situation was so very obvious from the beginning.

Ron Shuman was always a threat to USAC, as a competitor (driver) he took known of there bullshit, stories are endless how he was jacked around by them, but not ever such a threat as he became as a competing promoter. Ron and the travelling show became a refreshing change for the midwest and a huge threat to a arrogant old schooled USAC office. They were going to go to no end to shut Ron and all of the So Cal participants down. This was no different then a business buyout to take out the competition, run it so everyone thinks it's sincere and slowly let it bleed until this association never can compete at the level to threaten USAC again. The oldest trick in the book and bought hook line and sinker. Now I know there will be many who thing I don't know what the hell I am talking about, but many will.

Whether you are a Ron Shuman fan or not, he was taking this association to a level they never were and never will get to again. The only way now for So Cal to resurrect there situation is to count their losses and send USAC packing, new CEO and all, and start over again. CRA participants are sleeping with the enemy and you all know it. Don't wait until it is too late and you end up just another 360 regional division. Southern Cal non-wing racing has been the best entertainment on the planet for the 48 years of my life. Don't let USAC destroy it, there are too many intelligent owners, drivers and promoters to turn this around before it sinks, and it will sink with USAC. Don't make the mistake of thinking you are part of the National gang because you never will be, that is not part of the plan.

Impact, you said a mouthfull. We let Ron Shuman down. Now we pay the price....seems like justice to me....but there was a time SCRA ruled! On a positive,Faas and Gardener are promoting a big time ,old style , big money sprint car race at Victorville april 19 .sounds exciting to me.

Interesting post. For those of you who have been coming to this board regularly since the 2003-2004 season, you know this has been my very position. There are a handful that disagreed with me (even blasted me here). Which is all OK since different viewpoints make a message board more interesting. I can't help but notice that since there have been car owners, drivers crew members and even race fans that have sounded out on the dissatisfaction over how things have transpired since USAC's involvement, that those who were once on the "other side" have now seemed to go quiet. Some don't even post here any more (or they changed nicks and now have a different position).

Make NO MISTAKE about this statement.......................

The very FUTURE of the well being of the sport lies in the car owners hands. They can continue to accept what they are getting, or they can reorganize and start anew.

My position has not wavered on this deal, it's been the same from the get go. I haven't caught much flack because I haven't called anyone names and have kept my post's in a kind of romantic, nostalgic vein, but I have said from the beginning that CRA is dead. That it's name was used as a tool by USAC to get in the door and that the pride and tradition of CRA is being diluted and lost.

I talk about pride and tradition, while other just talk $$$. Well guess what guys? They were both better with SCRA.
