No positives or relishing in any possible demise here OKC...................I posted the thread to get peoples opinions on what they thought, or if I was getting ahead of myself, ya know?? We've got POSSE on that tour this year and I'd like to see the kid get a full year shot and see how it goes!!!
My goodness Mikey.............such hate and anger from the blissful Canuck!!?? Are the tips slow this time of year?? Ya oughta try to make it to PA early this season Mikey, sounds like we'll have some circus boyz hangin' out for a while to race here. The porsche isn't that small to sleep in.............is it??

anything about racing. I don’t understand how they
come up with some of the calls they do. It makes me
think that they just might be that stupid. It’s
scary." -Steve Kinser

yep, they just CAN'T get it done here like they do at Kville!
last time i checked, entering the corner at 136 mph was the same speed no matter where the track is located...but maybe up in Canada they have those METRIC FEET?

Seems to me Schatz has you guys covered pretty d### well. But I suppose since he races there at least once a year, he is also now considered posse? They were folding before they even took over. Then they were folding the next year. Then the next. And the next. And the next. And the next. And the next. And the next. And the next. For you, it might be hard to see a pattern here, but for most of us that can tell the difference between night and day, it's pretty simple!

Actualy, tips are at an all-time high thanks to the pricing and I have nothing negative to think or say these days save the old story that never goes away, lol. If the Flyers finish ahead of the Leafs it will have even been a great hockey season, in more ways than one. Really never slept in the van 'cept for Daytona the night before the 500 a few times, the little red rocket keeps one awake ALL the time. Take It Easy....

1978 was the year I had to make the decision whether to stay in as a car owner and make a sizable investment just to stay competitive with this new WoO or to park the thing and find something else to do. Up to that point we had fun without having to spend a fortune and the car was paying a lot of its own bills and that was without any help from sponsors.
1978 and beyond wasn't that great in my opinion. In my case it was better before.

A lot of things have gotten more expensive since the late 70's. I think that if Ted hadn't thought of the idea somebody else probably would have came along with a similar concept. My relatives got out of it at the end of 1976 for the same reason. It became too expensive for a working man to run a Sprint Car operation. Nowadays whether it's WoO Sprints or Late Models, USMTS Modifieds or whatever you don't see your average working man owning one of those touring teams.
I think of the drivers I've seen start out around here the past 10-15 or so years. Some of them are still running a limited 360 or IMCA deal trying to hang on and keep racing year in and year out. The ones that took it a step further and toured came from families that had a business and the means to take it to the next level. Even if the Outlaws were to fold tomorrow the infusion of money into the sport won't go back to what it was like when everyone would build their own Car over the winter. Most of these people racing today couldn't build a car like you do John, they buy all the pieces over the counter and that's what really drove up the costs. You know a lot more about that than I do so I don't have to go into a lot of detail.

Am I just oblivious or doesn't it matter that now they have a title sponsor again?
|
Depends on how much the title sponsorship is worth. I doubt it is between $8-$10 million per year and if the current losses continue in 2008 it would take another $8-$10 million to keep things going.

Let's try to be thankful of still having sprint car racing at all! I live in California and they are always try to close down the few tracks we have. I support any kind of sprint car series whether it be local or the WoO. We even supported the NST when they raced here a few years ago. I know things have changed a lot since I started going to races in the late 70s early 80s, but I just try to try to think of the positives and I am very thankful that we still have races to go to.
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!
Winged sprintcars = the fastest and most exciting
racecars on dirt!

I think Pennsylvania needs more fans with your attitude about that. They have great racing that's supported by owners and fans, maybe some day they'll see not everyone out there has that!
