I thought it was a good show, racing all day long its the first 500 i didn't take a nap during.

As far as tony's move he was gettin in front of his race dominating teammate so that kyle could push them both to the front , but by the time he moved the penske's were already hooked up. And i like the fact that the sling shot is back the drivers could actually drive past another with out 6 cars behind them, kyle did it all day long

Personal highlights most of all Robby Gordon Owner/Driver finished in 8th..

Top ten finish for Kahne, hope to see him in tulare for the WoO show....

keep in mind all of rogue-9's comments are comming from someone who has admitted in this very thread that they are not a nascar fan, are not a newman fan and wish tony would have won. so consider the source when you read rogues posts.

my scoring of this years 500? looks to me like nascar-1, rogue9-0.

by the way i met newman in 1998 at the dirt champ car race in sacramento. had a chance to just hang out and bs with him at a charity event. we just sort of started talking and ended up absorbing him into the group i was in as he was by himself. i have to say that he was a pretty humble and mild guy, and fit in well with us. even when we all snuck in to the pits useing our armbands from the charity event. newman got caught, the rest of us made it. he was almost kicked out before the race. lol. to his defence he wasn't trying to sneek in, but he was with us in the pick up going through the gate and we all showed our bands and got in except him. he had taken his off. saw him again at vegas a couple of years ago at the outlaw race while haud was driving our car and he came over to chat with him. newman had not seemed to change much.

i thought tony made a bad move on the last lap too. he should have stayed in front of newman and made him drop down to pass him. who knows if kyle could have gotten far enough alongside to keep newman or kurt from dropping down. tony should have stayed where he was and made those guys pass him or crash trying.

I thought it was a good 500. The only thing that sucked was the cautions at the end. It would have been better if they could have raced the last 15 laps.

I agree with that 100% and although JJ didn't look all that good he did get to race against Denny back there LOL and stayed out of trouble for a decent finish.

I had been to the Copper on dirt Saturday and they ran both programs one after the other after the rain out Friday night. The hot lap sessions were better than most of the 500.

The win it or wreck it idea at the end of your post was exactly my feeling. That was why I was so angry with him. First off, I was in a real bad mood last night, not only because of the Daytona 500, but for the fact I couldn't sleep and felt like crap. But you would have never seen Earnhardt, Petty, Pearson, Yarborough or any of the past greats move over like that. It was obvious Newman and Busch had the momentum and that kyle was not going to be a help. I mean when Tony moved down Kyle wasn't even there yet. It's the Daytona 500, and it should have been win it or wreck it. He could have at least tried to block instead of just moving out of Newman's way before Newman even had to make a move.

Saw the first 10 laps. Went to Target, then the mall. Listened to a few laps on Sirius as I was getting gas. Got home saw the last 16 laps. Not bad from what I saw.

It seems Kurt Busch has attained hero status for his little push of Newman. He's getting as much press as Newman. I'm glad he helped his teammate.

well we agree on something rogue. i just don't share your belief that the race was the worst 500 ever. it kept my attention. i don't think i fell asleep once. lol.

So you think Gordon didn't race open wheel? Hey Rogue do some research first, or do you like foot in mouth? Please check out all the dirt tracks he raced on in 410's and midgets. And no I am not a fan of his, but I am a fan of open wheel racing.

Check out the link, put Jeff Gordon name in and put in 1985 to present

Speaking of Harvick, Why was'nt he penalized for running into Blaney as they were coming into the turn. I thought that was a big on no, I don't care for the guy much & it's even less after doing what he done. Could of backed off. I'd rather Newman win than either of the pencil necked geek Busch brothers.

you know - maybe I'm in a bit different mood. But I'm willing to accept that so many RACE FANS like all of you like Nascar. Ok thats a crappy way to put it. but I can see why ya'll do. ya'll like dirt racing as well. just big race fans. and thats cool. glad no one got the wrong idea from my post. I don't care much for "fad" fans. But then again - should I really say that?

Because if someone went with a crowd they hung out with to a sprint car race - and liked it - but probably even at the time knew it was just a cool thing at the moment - and maybe even their main reason for going is because they have many friends or a click that goes................do any of us - especially myself - have any right to think/say less of those folks. No I don't. So to tell the truth - in reading my own post from this mornin - I'm disagreeing with myself. lol

Any person has any right to be a fan of any sport for any amount of time. So I can't really comment on "real" fans. all fans - whether permanent or occasional or whatever - help make good contributions to all sports. And I also shouldn;t say that Nascar isn;t a real sport. I may not like it or have a lot of interest in it - but for all those who do I think it's great for them. It's always cool when someone finds sumthin they like. no one really said anything to prompt it - but I'll take notice and generally apologize for putting my own thoughts in an ignorantly broad manner or acting somewhat condescending.

sprint car racing does kick the most ass though. for some reason - this "offseason" has felt longer than any other. has it been like that for anyone else?

What the hell are you talking about? When did I say that? I've seen pictures of him in flat out when he was like 16 in a winged sprint. Show me where I said that.

Oh I think I know what you were responding to. I was saying Newman feels more like Gordon because I feel like Gordon abandoned open-wheel racing. Now Newman has been getting in dirt late models lately, but where was he at the Chili Bowl. He's more like Gordon in that sense, making it to NASCAR and then just basically cutting his ties. He's not like a Stewart or Kahne or Leffler who now contribute to the sport by owning teams that give drivers a ride, and coming back to run various events like the chili bowl. It seemed like he used USAC as a ladder to NASCAR and then kicked the ladder away just like Gordon did. He's not an open-wheel racer at heart is what I should have said. He used open-wheel racing to get somewhere, and when he got there he dropped it. I know all the NASCAR guys used it to get where they are, but some have a certain place in their hearts for it and keep coming back, and others like Gordon, just threw it in the past. That was my reference to Gordon in my previous post. Sorry for the confusion, I see that it was fairly ambiguous looking back.

" Newman isn't a sprint car driver in my mind in the way that Stewart, Yeley, Kahne or Blaney are. I liken him more to Gordon." Rogue, clean out the crack pipe, change the water in the bong, get a cold rag on your forehead and enjoy the racing. The whole deal with Smoke is his spotter and crew chief need a good slapping around. They let him down by not talking him through the lap to the end. They should have been yelling at him big time as to what and where to make a move. Ah heck, cars shouldn't have fenders anyway. LOL

I enjoyed Chubby Checker pretending he was singing live, then I went to bet the ponies and got home for the last 15 laps. That was all NACAR required.

I will not take back what I said about Alot of nascar fans. I am happy for the true fan, you know, a fan that will be a fan even at the sports lowest! Which I kinda would like to see this happen to nascar soon just to bring it back to the fans who trully do love it. I think Helton and little France are on the way to doing that. Yeah, this offseason has really been way toooooo long!!!!
