That had to have been the most boring Daytona 500 I've ever seen. And Stewart made the stupidest move I've ever seen anyone make leading the last lap of the Daytona 500. He basically let Newman by him. Crappy race, crappy move, crappy winner. I think that sums it up.

Definitely not the most boring 500 ever. There was a last lap pass for the win. That is boring to you? Some of the years, there was absolutely no passing and you knew the field would finish exactly the same way they came off pit road following the final stop.

Why is Newman a crappy winner? You are posting on a open wheel message board and Ryan Newman is a product of open wheel racing. Don't understand your thinking there at all.

I thought it was one of the better 500's in recent years. Last years was 4 hours of boring until the last few laps. At least this year it was really good at the start and damn good over the last 30 or 40 laps.

Tony is no doubt this generations Dale Earnhardt. He seems to always give em hell during Speedweek's and then the 500 comes around and for some reason just can't close the deal. Kurt Busch won the race for Newman.

New year. New car. New winner. Same old stuff though. If a guy is in your way just go ahead and punt him. To pass you got to have 10 cars pushing you.

I personally don't like Newman. And I don't know why you say the race was good from the green flag. It was the same as every other year. The last 30-40 laps were boring because it was caution after caution, and they weren't even interesting cautions. Clint Bowyer into the grass. A few laps later Blaney taps the wall and brings it into the pits. A few laps later Mears slaps the wall and brings it into the pits. And then you think Stewart is finally going to get the 500 and he makes a bonehead move and moves over to block Kyle Busch when he's about 2 cars behind and Newman is on his bumper. There was no pass for the lead on the last lap, it was Tony moving out of his way to block a car that wasn't even close enough to draft him without forcing him to give Newman the lead first. I'm sorry but I can't call that a pass. Newman didn't have to get by him, and once Tony moved over it was blatantly obvious who was going to win just like 2 and 3 years ago. The first 160-170 laps were uneventful, and then the last 30 to 40 were mostly under the yellow flag for stupid little stuff. 3 laps of racing, 5 under caution, 3 more of racing, 5 more under caution. I'm sorry, but I definitely found this very boring. But maybe it wasn't the most boring ever. Two years ago when Johnson won was probably the worst. Why don't I like Newman? He acts kind of like his teammate, and he drives dirty. Plus USAC silver crown is mostly on asphalt, and I don't see much of a difference between sprint cars on asphalt and NASCAR. It has to be on Dirt or it doesn't matter to me. USAC on Dirt is awesome, USAC on asphalt is just as boring as NASCAR or Indy Cars to me.

The cautions weren't even interesting? Oh, well, why didn't you say in your original post that the race sucked for you because there wasn't a "big one?" You can't call Newman going by Stewart on the final lap a pass? Well, then what the hell was it? That is absolutely ridiculous.

Sorry that your remote wasn't working - it seems like that the on/off, and channel up/down buttons weren't operative. Have you checked the batteries lately? Too bad for rogue......

Really good 500 from over here and why:

-Didn't hear Earnhardt's name mentioned all that much.

-Wasn't any of them multi-car pile-ups that takes out like half the field.

-DNF = Jeff Gordon

-Ex-Sprint Car Racer wins as a long shot.

-Sam Hornish Jr. did better than expected.

-Roger Penske finally gets a trophy he never had.

Cons to 2K8 500:

-GM backed teams take a beating.

If it's that bad every year don't watch it, problem solved.................Congratulations to Newman on a great effort to be there at the end.......sometimes that's all it takes......as far as cautions not being interesting, I feel sorry for you if you need to see cars getting upside down to stay interested, I'm pretty happy that we there wasn't a BIG ONE this year, and I'm pretty sure Ryan Newman has raced on dirt in a sprint car and midgets so maybe you should do a little research before making unsubstantiated claims

I wouldn't have minded if there was no big one if they didn't spend more than half of the last forty laps under caution. But if they're gonna spend all that time under caution it would be nice to have an interesting replay to watch. And my point about it not being a pass is that Newman didn't have to do anything to get the lead. he just kind of inherited it when Stewart made a dumb move. Technically it was a pass, but it wasn't a pass like Harvick over Martin last year, or the nice looking passes Stewart made on Dale Jr. today, one of the few interesting points of the race. It wasn't exciting watching Newman take the lead, it was "Why did Stewart just move down and hand him the lead." I mean Newman is better than Gordon, Johnson, Montoya, or either of the Busch's, but still, I just didn't feel like it should have been his race. Kind of like Kurt Busch with the 2004 championship, or even Ward Burton in 2002. It was an uneventful race with a disappointing finish, and when I came away from it I was really bitter. Newman isn't a sprint car driver in my mind in the way that Stewart, Yeley, Kahne or Blaney are. I liken him more to Gordon. When I think of former sprint drivers in NASCAR, I just don't think of Newman. maybe that's because all the pictures I've seen of him in a sprint car are on asphalt, and I don't think sprints on pavement is real sprint car racing.

You didn't read my post carefully, I said mostly on asphalt, not always. I don't know if he ran more dirt before that, but everything I've seen of him is in a silver crown car.

I was watching it because it is one of the most historic races there are, and it happened to be the 50th anniversary. But I was disappointed with the race, especially the way Newman just inherited the lead from Stewart's folly.

I got to watch it with my Dad and got a free steak to go with it. I did notice they spread out quite a bit more than usual but the finish was good(except a chevy didn't win).

What I do miss- Ken Squier and Ned Jarrett putting on a simple Daytona 500. Back when no self respecting high end musical recording artist had time to perform for such things.

Speaking of Harvick, Why was'nt he penalized for running into Blaney as they were coming into the turn. I thought that was a big on no, I don't care for the guy much & it's even less after doing what he done. Could of backed off. I'd rather Newman win than either of the pencil necked geek Busch brothers.
