I know, I know it's not sprint cars but this is worthy of some note. Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway will be hosting the U.S. Modified Nationals on September 28 and 29. The winner of Saturday night's A-main will receive a whopping $20,000.
One question- We were wondering if this was the richest modified race in the country? I don't know if Ron Rodda or Steve Curtis would know but either way this is pretty sweet to have a race like this in our own backyard. Would be awesome if some sprint car guys could get a ride in somebody's mod for the weekend.

A special thank you to Steve Faria and Don Sharp without whom this event and series would not be possible.

$10,000 for second, $5000 for third and so it goes. Great pay downs and special events for the crews as well. $500 longest haul, $500 biggest team, $500 drawing with all teams entered.

Make your plans now. More, much more to come. We could pick up another day to the show. That's pending.

Thank you to the Tulare Chamber of Commerce

Batesville Arkansas has a $100,000 to win modified event usually towards the end of July, but that is the only one I can think of right now that pays more than $20,000.

That is an amazing purse, especially for California. Where will everyone pit?

Batesville, Ark. is the home town of Mark Martin. $100K is huge for the mods. The Tulare race should have all the best western US cars at least. I just posted a video clip on YouTube of a dirt modified crash at the Silver Dollar in `05. The driver was OK except for a bad case of red eye. He went out and bought a new chassis the next morning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ABH35aNsrc

I talked with Christy Georges, a modified star from Las Cruces, today at Tucson. She said the 100K Batesville race was downsized to 10,000 to win or something like that. Apparently there were also some issues with bounced checks from that race, something that would never happen at Tulare.

She said getting Southwest cars to travel to Tulare would depend on the rules and purse breakdown, but anyone I spoke with about the event was very interested.

Speaking of bounced checks, every check did just that at the recent indoor show in Grand Rapids MI, over 160 entrants and every check was no good!

I don't know of any other modified shows paying more than 10k to win. I'm not sure what it pays to win at the Boone (IA) Supernationals, I believe that one is 10k as well. It would have been interesting to see if some of the late model guys who have ran a modified at Batesville (Bloomquist, Terry Phillips) from back east would have pulled out here for a shot at 20k but this event is on the same weekend as the Late Model Nationals at Knoxville.

This sounds like a cool event. It's just too bad that its on the same weekend as the big 2-day open wheel show at Kings. SCRA sprints, USAC/BCRA midgets, & 3/4 midgets. Oh well, another time i guess. Just cant pass up midgets & sprints on the same card.

Just happened to look at the entry form for this show. $280 entry fee? $125 for a upfront pit location? I hope this draws well but those prices at the back gate are scary enough and then you throw in the $40 pit pass per night and it's going to get awfully expensive for teams coming to this event.
