I was told today that someone in Sigourney Iowa got 3 million dollars and was going to build a sprint car track. Just wondered if anyone else had heard anything?

The last thing Iowa needs is another racetrack. I wish that about half of them would close so the remaining tracks could put on a better show.

So you are saying you want to see hornets at Knoxville then? I know, I know, I was just joking. Don't even reply!
Fenders are like vacuums... they both suck.

The one thing I see is. IF a person has that many dollars to invest, he is either a lotto winner or living a dream.
Based on a 10 year pay off of a 3 million dollar investment and a 20 night season, it would take solid success every nioght just to service the debt without thought to profit ot operating expenses.
As much history that area of Iowa has in the older days of sprinters, I personally don't see the fan base to support it for time it would take to make it a success.
If this deal happens, you can count me in as a supporter for sure, but even with my small amount of business education and math, I simply can not see how a business open for 4 months out of the year and an average of 5 nights per month racing could ever pass the board of directors at a bank, a board of supervisors in the county for the permits and a wife at home with a fry pan in her hand trying to wake someone up from a dream.

It's a one rumer that should not even be taken seriouly guys. 3 miillion wouldn't even get the grandstands or the parking lot installed. They would spend a mill alone on enviromental impact studies just to be told NOOOOOO WAY.

There is a track on the East side of Sigourney already, It is a 1/4 or 3/8 mile figure 8 track but could be retro'ed I suppose if a guy had the Pesos to do it. It's 40 miles closer than Knoxville for me!!! But face it, the 40 miles aint nothing when your talking about Knoxville.

All good points, especially what you're saying about Iowa not needing another Sprint track. People forget that Jackson, Minnesota, is only a few miles across the border and they're having to run Stock Cars and Modifieds with 360's. Someone in this thread mentioned Pure Stocks at Knoxville. You guys so far have been pretty lucky down there because most tracks have to run five or six classes so they can take in enough money at the back gate to survive. I don't know how they do it down there because whenever I have been there for a weekly show there aren't anymore people in the stands than most tracks I attend and they're paying two top classes, 410's and 360's.
With a rough economy I don't look for many new tracks to be added, hopefully we can support what's out there.
