Due to the greed of several track promoters in Texas, there will be no IMCA Lone Star Nationals at Texas Motor Speedway in 2008. Below is a couple of excerpts from a couple of posters on elbowsups message board. I gave my lengthly thought there also. It is a shame as this was really a big deal last year, now all for not.

IMCA Lone Star Nationals 2008 cancelled.

After several talks with all interested parties of local tracks, IMCA sanctioning group and Texas Motor Speedway. It has been decided that the IMCA Lone Star Nationals will not be held in the fall of 2008. Texas Motor Speedway has very recently discussed the issues at hand that effect the fall race date at it’s dirt track facilities. There is much to resolve for TMS with this cancellation of the Lone Star Nationals. Texas Motor Speedway will reveal it’s next step at a later time with a official announcement.

( My appologies to those who disaprove of my steering readers to that site. This news is a exception. )

Grocerius Maximus, Richard Snider at KSP was the main promoter against TMS and the LSN! KSP threatened to drop there IMCA sanction if something wasnt done! I know Rob Poor at Abilene Speedway felt the LSN hurt there car count at the Southern Challenge! David Crenshaw at 281 Speedway planned to run the same weekend as the TMS LSNs this year!

ModManiac, I do agree IMCA could and should have stood up for TMS and the LSNs but I do see it from both sides, sort of! IMCA backed the weekly IMCA track promoter in this situation! However I dont agree with backing down to promoters who threaten to pull there sanctions if they dont get there way! TMS and IMCA went out there way to schedule the LSN so that it would not interfere with any IMCA sanctioned track! If IMCA and TMS would have scheduled on top of any other race, I would have condemned TMS and IMCA and backed who they scheduled over! However thats not the case here!

Bottom line is the LSN at TMS was an option for racers and fans! A few greedy selfish promoters want there track to be the only option! Sadly these greedy selfish promoters got there way, regardless of how the fans and racers feel!

man thats pretty interesting. and pretty sad also. IMHO - it's things kinda like this that hurt dirt track racing in general. ah what it could do for racing if all regional promoters could work together. having that opinion - is also a reason I'm chocked there is a Lanny Edwards promoter of the year award. Now I don't everything about Lanny - but outside Emmet Hahn and ASCS - it doesn;t seem he is too apt to work with anybody. I would like to be corrected if I am wrong about that.

I still think Bo Rawdon is 1 of the bets promoters I have seen. I'm sure he ain't perfect - but he has great races - answers any questions no matter the importance - and also talks at great length to fans. I don't know how everybody else thinks of Rawdon (Cowtown promoter) - but I think he's a great promoter. also the only regional promoter I know of who fields questions, answer all of em, and also shoots the shit with everyone on his own tracks forum.

which kinda leads me to this question. not tryin to start or imply anything -but whats the status of the "relationship" between Cowtown and KSP. sorry to use that term - but some of the weekly fans @ Cowtown once told me there was at one time a lot of animosity between the 2 tracks. Is this still the case - I mean are they at odds or are things cool and they workin together? I noticed that when sprints are off at Cowtown - KSP is runnin em. and I wonder if that was something agreed upon between the 2 tracks or just done by KSP alone? ok instead of sking 15 different questions - whats the deal between these 2 tracks?

Track-Announcer could help some with this one - I think he covers the tracks in that area at great length.

That's sad news! Last year's show was GREAT!

Stupid, greedy promoters! I was wanting to check out KSP but after this stunt I'm rethinking that. (I realize that there are other tracks involved but KSP seems to be the big one.) Its sad that a few greedy individuals can ruin such a great, fun thing for so many others.

IMCA shouldn't allow tracks to coerce them into making decisions like this and TMS shouldn't either. TMS should just go a head and have the show anyways. Who cares if its IMCA sanctioned or not. They should just run it outlaw or even contact the USMTS and just have a huge 3 day USMTS race there on those date with the SUPR latemodels.

I like dirt!
