San Jose's Jason Newton was officially honored as the Ocean Speedway/Wright One Construction 360 series Rookie of the Year on Jan. 11 2008 at the Ocean Speedway awards banquet at the famous "Coconut Grove" on the boardwalk at the beach in Santa Cruz, CA. Jason, in addition to being awarded the rookie of the year, was also awarded seventh place in the Wright One Construction 360 sprint series at Ocean Speedway.
Jason was presented with his own Ocean Speedway 2007 Rookie of the Year letterman's coat as well as a plaque honoring him as the inaugural Wright One Construction 360 sprint series Rookie of the Year by Ocean Speedway promoter John Prentice. Prentice also presented Jason with a very impressive trophy for his seventh place in the point standings as well. In Jason's acceptance speech in front of the 400 plus in attendance inside the historic "Coconut Grove" at the beach he thanked his sponsors including Valvoline Products, Wright One Construction, Honest One Auto Care, A1 Constuction, Kenny Piraro Racing, Mad Welding, Cambrian Karts,Balfour Caulking and Waterproofing, Campbell Motorsports Productions, The Gauthier Family, Afco Racing Shocks, Quickway Signs and Crow Enterprises. Jason also expressed his thanks to his team and family who were in attendance to enjoy the evening for their support in making his dream of running a winged sprint car come true. Jason said he was honored to run in competition with series champ Brent Kaeding as well as standouts such as Brad Furr and Ronnie Day and felt the Rookie of the Year award was more than he could have hoped for. Jason's rookie season included a heat race win at each track he visited (Ocean, Petaluma and Antioch) and a trophy dash and main event win at the Antioch Speedway.
