USAC/CRA Champion Tony Jones at Lakewood Lounge on Saturday, February 16

Lakewood, CA. – 2007 USAC/CRA Champion Tony Jones and the Alexander Race Team will be on hand Saturday afternoon, February 16, at the Zanzabuku Sports Lounge in Lakewood, CA. to kick-off their 2008 season. The bar once again will be sponsoring Jones and the team. Last year's championship sprint car will also be on display at the Lakewood lounge.

The Saturday afternoon event at the Zanzabuku will feature racing videos, raffles, a 50/50 draw, drink specials and plenty of bench racing for race fans. Plans are to have Mexican food available beginning at 1 p.m..

The USAC/CRA season begins on Friday, February 8, at the Perris Auto Speedway (PAS) with a two-night double header featuring two divisions of sprint cars. Jones and the Alexander crew will not compete for the series championship this year, instead selecting certain dates to run on the 410 USAC/CRA schedule. They do plan to race at the Perris opener.

Jones, who is the son of Sprint Car Hall of Fame driver Bubby Jones, won five times (tied for most victories on the circuit) last season and missed one race following a terrific accident at the PAS that resulted in a broken collarbone. Among the wins for the team was the Firecracker 40, several TV races at Perris Auto Speedway and at Las Vegas.

All activities are designed to help fund the sprint car team this year. Everything gets started @ 1.pm. The Zanzabuku is located @ 4825 Paramount Blvd in the city of Lakewood. For more information call the bar @ 562.423.9872.

If the Champ is not going to defend, just how many teams are committing to run the season? I fear a very low car count this year. Is the Arizona series going to be better with more cars? Which will have the best quality of drivers and teams? Until we see some good answers no need to buy season tickets anywhere.

Ken.

I can't think of a better way to kick of the 2008 USAC/CRA season than with a party at the Zanzabuku; I know that I will be there. Congratulations to the Alexander's, Tony, and all of their sponsors on a great season in 2007. I can't wait to see them kick butt this year.

Gary:

I don't subscribe to Flat Out. Do you know if it is available retail at newsstands? I'm a big Tony Jones fan, and would like to get a copy of that issue.

Thank, Bob Whitaker

Never mind.  It's hell getting old.  I actually subscribed online some time ago, and since I hadn't received my first issue, I'd forgotten that I ordered it.  (It showed on my statement as Wheels Up Publishing so I using that excuse for not realizing it was for Flat Out.  I know, pretty weak.)  I just called them and Jen assured me I'm getting that issue.  So, all is good - except for my memory......

Can't wait to see everyone at the opener.....that is if I can remember how to get to the track!!!

Correction: It was ThreeWide not WheelsUp. (I'm losing it fast. Pretty soon I'll be signing my name wrong....)
