USMTS Southern Series Dates Traded

A change has been made to the recently announced Southern Series schedule. Sabine Motor Speedway in Many, Louisiana and Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, Mississippi have swapped weekends with Speedarama located in Lufkin, Texas and another track whose date has not been announced yet. Sabine will now hold their USMTS Southern Series event on their brand new 2008 track surface on Friday night, May 9th with Pike County moving to Saturday night, May 10th. The two tracks are four and half hours apart according to Mapquest.com. Speedarama moves up two weeks to Friday night, April 25th and should end up paired to a Saturday night show most likely at a another Louisiana track soon to be announced. Speedarama and Pike County are new tracks for USMTS in 2008 while USMTS returns to Many for the first time in five years.

The USMTS Southern Series has 23 confirmed dates with 5 more likely to be announced soon. They had 22 races in 2007. The 2008 season will start on Friday, April 18th at Golden Triangle Raceway Park (formerly Motorama) in Beaumont, Texas and move over to the Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas on Saturday night, April 19th. Those same two tracks will pair up again on August 22nd and 23rd for what will hopefully be races number 17 and 18 for the Southern Series in 2008.

The season will end with the second annual Texas Winter Nationals at Houston Raceway Park on December 4th, 5th and 6th. The Texas Winter Nationals purse has increased for 2008 to $2000 to win on Thursday night, $3000 to win on Friday and will pay $4000 to win at the season finale on Saturday. The Southern Series also visits Houston Raceway Park on Saturday night, May 18th.

The point fund for the 2008 Southern Series will be at least $25,000 with $10,000 earmarked for the champion. New for 2008, is the Southern Series Top Dog Bonus. That guarantees a racer at least $300 per event if top ten in points and $200 back if top 15 in points as long as the racer keeps perfect attendance in the Southern Series.

Don't forget to plan a vacation around the week of June 3rd to June 8th as the Southern Series Speedweek is taking shape. Dates in Arkansas and Louisiana have already been booked at I-30 Speedway, Little Rock, AR (Wednesday), Ark-La-Tex Speedway, Vivian, LA (Thursday), Monticello Speedway, Monticello, AR (Friday) and Fast Trax Speedway, Chatham, LA (Saturday). I-30 and Ark-La-Tex are new tracks on the schedule this year while Monticello and Fast Trax are back again after having successful nights in 2007. Tracks are still being sought for Tuesday night, June 3rd and Sunday night, June 8th as well in attempt to race $2000-to-win, USMTS Southern Series points events over six straight nights.

Other new tracks on the schedule for the 2008 USMTS Southern Series are Lake Country Speedway, Ardmore, OK on May 2nd and Cowtown Speedway, Kennedale, TX on May 3rd with another expected to be announced for November 14th and 15th. Other return visits in 2008 include 105 Speedway, Cleveland, TX on May 16th and South Texas Speedway, Corpus Christi, TX on November 20th through 22nd.

If all 2008 Southern Series dates get filled, the 28 events will happen over Speedweek and just ten other weekends. There will be 5 weekends in a row from April 18th through May 17th. Then at least 16 days off before Speedweek. After Speedweek, there will be a 2 and half month break before running one weekend in August. Then, a six week break before USMTS and I-30 Speedway combine up for I-30's annual Topless Modified Nationals. The feature on Friday, October 3rd will pay $2000 to win while Saturday night's one-day Modified event on October 4th will pay out a huge $5000 to the winner.

After that, one more six-week break before the USMTS Southern Series concludes by running 3 more weekends in a 4-week stretch, taking only Thanksgiving weekend off.

Why isn't Enid on the schedule? They had some great races there last year. Nice to see that they are doing a $10,000 to win though. Will probably bring in more cars anyways. I was just kind of shocked that Enid wasn't on the USMTS schedule this year. LETS GO RACIN!!

I'm not sure either on that Y.

Last year they had 67 Mods on Saturday, Mar 31. Rain caused it to be a Sat-Sun weekend instead of a Fri-Sat weekend. The Sunday afternoon race still drew 57 cars. Now it did drop on October 5th and 6th to 45 and 44 but EVERYONE was racing something big that weekend. 81 Speedway had their NCRA Mod show, State Fair had the Winter Nationals, Cowtown had the Topless 100 and Ark-La-Tex had their championship, all on that same weekend and they still got mid-40s. Had that Enid race run on the original September weekend that Clinton was scheduled for (Enid replaced Clinton), they're right back around 55 to 60 I think.

The trouble with USMTS is, they run out of dates fast! Todd needs a clone. One for up north and one for down south!
